In a letter written to the Information and Broadcasting ministry, Zarina Usmani, chairperson of the UP Women's Commission, has sought immediate action against the contestants of Bigg Boss 9 and the show for using offensive language and promoting violence against the female inmates of the house. "After various complaints on the content of Bigg Boss, I personally watched the show in the last week. And I was shocked to see how aggressive the boys on the show are, especially Suyyash Rai and Prince Narula.
I have seen episodes where they have misbehaved and threatened Mandana Karimi," says Zarina, adding, "Bhavnatmak hinsa (emotional violence) nahi kar sakte aap kisi ke saath bhi. What kind of example are they setting?" The complaint has been filed against the show and the contestants.
This isn't for the first time that the state Women's Commission has protested against the portrayal of women on the small screen. "In 2010, we had filed a complaint against similar abusive content on the show Emotional Atyaachar. The channel later ran an apology for the same."
