They stayed in each other's arms for who know how long. As Parvati finally controlled her sobs, she felt herself slowly being pulled away. She frowned and tried to hold on, shaking her head against his chest, not wanting the moment to end so quickly. Feeling her head shake negatively, Rudra submitted to her plea and held her again, stroking her back soothingly.
He kissed her cheek, "It's okay, Paro. I'm okay."
Her nails clawed at his bare back as she recalled how he wasn't okay hours ago. Parvati felt that this was a dream and if she let go now, the image before her would shatter. So she held onto him, not wanting to let go. However, Rudra needed her to look at him. He could tell that she was still trying to come to terms with everything that had happened. He needed to assure her that he was here, in front of her, and that he was okay. After a few more minutes Rudra pulled her back, despite her protests. Their eyes locked. He moved her hair out of her face before stroking her cheek with his thumb. He could see the pain and relief clearly in her eyes as they met his. Parvati cupped his face in both her hands, still trying believe that he was alright and actually here. The way he looked at her with upmost adoration made her realize how truly blessed she was to have him in her life.
"Paro, I am okay," Rudra emphasized every word.
She rested her head on his chest and closed her eyes, "I almost lost you."
"You will never lose me."
"I saw you on the table. There was so...so much blood."
Rudra moved Paro so she was looking back at him. Before he could speak, a nurse came in with a tray of food and medicine. Seeing the two of them together, she quietly placed it on the side table and made a quick exit. Rudra resumed their conversation.
"What do you mean there was so much blood'?" he asked.
"In the Operating Theatre," Paro said as she wiped her tears. "The bleeding wouldn't stop and-."
"Wait wait wait. Are you telling me you were there, watching them operate?"
Parvati shook her head. She began narrating everything that had happened, from the doctor announcing his pulse dropping to him flatlining to him being revived. Rudra couldn't stop his jaw from dropping in shock as the words left Paro's mouth. He couldn't believe that all of this had happened. It was no wonder she refused to let him go. When she finished narrating the events that led up to the present, Rudra placed his hand on hers. Her eyes met his.
"I told you once before and I'll say it again," he said. "No one can keep me away from you, Paro."
Parvati nodded in understanding. Her gaze fell on his bandaged chest. He looked at where she was looking before focusing back on her.
She wiped the tears from her eyes and sniffled, "Does it hurt?"
"Not a lot, but it will later. I'm heavily medicated right now," Rudra chuckled, "It's a gun shot wound. Obviously it's-."
Parvati smacked his uninjured arm angrily, taking him by surprise, "You're laughing?! Really?! Do you think this is a joke?"
"I was just-."
"You were dying, Rudra!" she shouted. "I was watching you die and I couldn't do anything! If anything happened to you, what would I have done? How would I live without you?"
Rudra stared at her as she shouted out him. He opened his mouth to speak but found himself unable to come up with something to say. He was stunned realizing how scared she had been to lose him. However, his heart couldn't help but flip as he realized how much he meant to Parvati. Seeing her so serious, Rudra knew that it wasn't such a good idea to joke with her.
He placed his hand on hers, "Paro I-."
She pulled her hand away and shot up from the bed, "How could you-."
Her words died down as her head suddenly felt heavy. Parvati held onto her head as she began to feel dizzy. She closed her eyes as she swayed a little before sinking back down on the edge of the bed. It seemed like the shock of everything that had happened was finally taking its toll on her. Seeing the sudden change in her demeanor, Rudra instantly became concerned. He frowned as he held her hand to move her closer. She rested her head back on his shoulder, breathing slowly to relax herself.
"Paro?" Rudra said as he pulled her back. He held her by the back of her neck so she would look at him. "Paro, are you okay? What's wrong?"
"I'm okay," she replied weakly.
He didn't believe her. He could tell by her features that she looked exhausted. Her face was missing its usual glow. In fact, she looked slightly pale.
Rudra glared at her, "You're lying to me. You were swaying just a second ago. You look like you're going to faint. So tell me-."
He stopped speaking. He scrunched his eyes before they widened to the size of saucers. Rudra scanned her from head to toe. How could he have not noticed? Her clothes...the way she was dressed. Rudra moved his hand from her neck and held her face once again. Parvati looked into his molten caramel eyes that were filled with worry.
"Paro, it was Karva Chauth last night wasn't it?" he asked.
Parvati nodded as she held his hand against her face.
"Have you eaten anything?"
She paused before looking down shamefully and shaking her head no'.
"What?!" Rudra fumed. "You haven't eaten?! Why?!"
Parvati looked up at him guiltily, "How could I break my fast without you?"
"Paro, it's been over 24 hours since you've last eaten! It's no wonder you look so weak!" Rudra looked at the food sitting on the side table. He reached out for it, only to be stopped by Parvati.
"Don't," she said. "You'll hurt your-."
"Don't even try to stop me," he growled.
Before she could say anything more, Rudra pulled the side table to him. He eyed the food that the nurse had brought. He picked up a slice of apple and held it up to her face.
"Eat," he ordered.
She shook her head and pushed the apple towards his mouth, "This food is for you."
He didn't listen. He pushed the apple back in front of her mouth. Parvati looked at it, then at him. Rudra glared at her before eyeing the apple, gesturing her to eat. She sighed before taking a bite. Fighting with him would get her nowhere, and she didn't have the energy to do so after everything they had gone through. As she chewed the piece in her mouth, Parvati took the remainder of the apple and fed it to Rudra. They continued to feed each other until the tray was empty. Neither of them were able to look away from each other. Rudra's anger soon faded as they finished eating, but he continued to look at her, concerned. Parvati moved the tray aside. She was about to get up when Rudra held her wrist. She looked at him and found him looking back her, silently pleading with his eyes. He shook his head and pulled her back to himself.
Parvati slid her wrist out of his hand so that his hand was now holding hers, their fingers lacing together. She held it with both of hers against her chest. She looked down at his hand in both of hers. As she stroked his knuckles gently, Rudra stared at her. It never ceased to amaze him that the tenderness of her actions created the most intimate of moments between them. He leaned down a little so his eyes would meet hers.
"I am sorry for joking around," Rudra said. "I'm okay, really."
"What would I do without you?" Parvati's gaze met his, "You mean everything to me, Rudra. I love you."
Rudra's eyes widened as his hand slipped out of hers. His breath hitched as he stared at Parvati, not believing what he had just heard.
"Wh-what?" he barely managed to say. "What did you say?"
Parvati smiled as she looked at him, "I love you, Rudra."
Rudra felt like his heart was about to explode. This was a dream. Parvati had just confessed that she loved him. She actually loved him. Right now, his happiness knew no bounds. His broke in a huge grin as he stared at her tenderly. The second she repeated herself, Rudra knew he was a goner.
"Say it again," he said.
"I love you," Parvati said again.
"Again."
"I love you."
"Again."
"Rudra!"
"Please?"
Parvati smiled as she held his face in her hands once again. Her eyes glazed with an undying adoration that left Rudra breathless. His eyes followed her concentrated movements. He held his breath as she slowly leaned forward and kissed his right cheek. Her soft lips felt feather-like against his stubbled cheek.
When she stopped, Paro softly whispered in his ear, "I love you."
She kissed the other cheek and whispered again, "I love you."
She pulled his face down and kissed his forehead, "I love you."
Rudra finally let go. A man could hold resist so much temptation. As soon as her lips left his forehead, he grabbed her hand and pulled her forward. Parvati collided against his chest. Her doe eyes look up at his and found them burning with a chocolate-brown intensity. His hand slowly went up to her face, his fingers threading through her silky hair. Parvati leaned into his warm hand as her hands rested on to his chest. He slowly pulled her closer to him, getting lost in her stare. Their lips were only inches apart.
As he saw her close her eyes, he whispered, "Paro, main..."
Parvati remembered the last time he had said that. At that time, she was too stuck on her past to understand what was between them. Now, as history was repeating itself, her past was no longer holding her back. Her future no longer scared her. In fact, Parvati was ready to embrace it. Without opening her eyes, she gave a gentle nod, which was all the signal Rudra needed. He leaned his and kissed her. It was a soft kiss, gentle and loving. But it was also filled with the built-up affection and longing that they had both stored away. He gave her a peck, then kissed her again...and again...and again...each time longer than the last. Once he had a taste of her, Rudra couldn't stop. Parvati tasted so sweet. It was intoxicating. It was addicting. He didn't understand how he had held back for so long.
Realizing that they were running out of air, they were forced to pull away from each other. Parvati opened her eyes and found him staring at her with a crooked smile, his chest heaving as he tried to catch his breath. Realizing that they had just kissed, she felt a blush creep up on her cheeks. She fisted her hands and covered her face as she started giggling like a little girl. Seeing her antics, Rudra let out a chuckle. He pulled hand away from her face and she looked at him with a huge smile.
He smiled, "I love you, Paro."
Her gaze softened, "I love you too."
In that moment, Rudra fell even more in love with his Paro...if that was even possible!
