Sohara, Faiqa di don't tell me to shut up and get out but I somehow don't want to see them have a baby..

aloo kumar and puri kumari will add overdose of mishri to diabetic IPK fan. Had it been treated with a tinge of khatta and teekha it might have been fun, but now it seems predictable and cliche.

Sanaya.

1) Loves Khushi too much.
2) Doesn't like sitting idle/ being offscreen for long.

That's enough for her I guess. IPK? Reunion? Sure, why not? And it's not being done in charity after all.

Barun.

1) Could be an accomplice to Star's "Lo Thoons lo" regime.
2) Has seen way too much ASR love around him. There has not been one interview where the banda wasn't asked about ASR and doing it again, or doing a show again with Sanaya which was taken as more or less, doing IPK again. So, "Lo Thoons Lo."
3) Witnessed a frenzy in Dubai too for the same. "Lo some more thoons lo."
4) Realizes has been offscreen for long and ardent fans just want to see him. Bahut ho gaya. Wapas aa jao and all that. So "lo thoons lo"
5) One oowild theory. As per SBS, Star plans a series with him post the reunion, this was speculated the first time news of reunion got leaked (deliberately?). That points to a few directions.
6) It was just an affair of 2 days. And he's getting paid.

Aha what he loved in the concept?

1) The concept of wearing pink/brown/fawn blazer.
2) The concept of standing on one foot with another in mid air and arms spread in what could have otherwise been SRK pose.
3) The concept of romancing the fan. Or just flirting with it. See? See?

That said, I love it. In three episodes, I got moments, a few of them spread out, with repeat value. Mainly for the intonations in his voice. And there was magic in them. Subdued but magic. ❤️

Hi Amanji Indi ji

lucky fan!!! in these shots, even with the fawn jacket.. I can pretend he is the man I know..

P.S - The fact that ASR is calling Akash "tu" and not "tum" is an observation worthy of Aman.

P.P.S - If they decide to show Aman on screen I stop watching the show.. hello hi bye bye..

totally agree... moments of the voice.. almost as if he reached back and brought asr close, almost unable to let him go. heart plummet at "i was really mean to her," at the plants who don't speak, at after the first meeting i went home and she went to hers, it was so bitter, never thought we'd meet again.

from another convo re jacket colour... looked salmon pink to me.

Yeah, there were moments there, when ASR came through.
As far as reminiscences go, I wish they would show him looking at Diwali. 😆

his english however has become extremely "ki" fied... no longer the language of my amriki dilli accent wala asr. there was a sexiness in that... even in the "you don't have a character."

i was telling her ki... sorry that is def not the tycoon talking. i miss my man. i miss him so.

you have to admit i was nicer to di in without you.. i cannot bear the poor girl first having to deal with shyam then having to be strong woman who runs ngo and never thinks of herself or a man in her life.

ngo and green tea... now trending (actually for a while) in our posh sophisticated so enlightened serials.

ipkknd ek jashn episode 2
subtitles

(will try and put it on the video tomorrow.)

ASR:
Hey!

Khushi:
What the?

You're saying bad things about me?!

How can you?! How... I won't talk to you!

HP has told me everything. I'm going...

ASR:
Whe-! But, Khushi you've already gone!

I mean... you're not at home, right?

Khushi:
You're making fun of me again?!! Arnav Singh Raizada, I'm never coming back!

ASR:
Hey! Khu- Hello, Khushi?!

Hari Prakash!

No need to tell Khushi what's going on here, ok?

Go!

HP:
Sir, I'll water the plants and go.

ASR:
I'll do it.

I've loved plants from the beginning.

They can't speak...

Don't hurt anyone.

They're very giving by nature.

Mom also liked plants a lot.

Of course, Khushi believes I like plants

because they don't answer back... don't argue with me.

That's not true!

Maybe it is.

But by that logic... why would I marry Khushi?

She answers back... she argues with me...

Does everything that irritates me.

Uh... don't tell her I said that.

When I told Khushi that, she went on like...

Who do you think you are, Laad Governor!

And... why does she even call me that?

What does that mean?!

Khushi claimed she named me Lord Governor because I think I am God (Bhagwan).

Because I don't believe in God.

Remember the first time when I told her that I don't believe in God?

How she reacted? You remember what she said?

Khushi:

In your world perhaps there is no God, and in your mind perhaps there is no faith...

but the world in which I live, there's nothing greater than God!

ASR:
In this world if there were God, the thing called pain (dard) wouldn't exist.

In this world, the one who has money, has power.

Just remember that.

Khushi:
If (God) gives pain, (God) also gives the medicine.

And no matter how much money and power you may have...

you can't take on God...

No matter how much money or power, it's nothing before (God).

And as long as... in my mind there's faith in Mata Rani (Mother Goddess), she's there with me.

Apart from (God) no one can change anyone's fortune or fate.

No matter who has how much money...

Without Devi Maiyya's consent no one can do anything!

Not even some Arnav Singh Raizada!

HP:
Sir, these gifts have come.

ASR:
So keep them...

Hello! Yes, Nani?

Yeah... I forgot...

Is it necessary to forget your anniversary every year, Chhotey?

Is it necessary to scold me every year, Nani?

Yeah, got a plan to make her come around.

Yeah... don't worry... Ok!

I'll take Khushi to Lucknow to that dargah...

We'll open the locks of Mannat (wishes) there...

Her key will be with her...

My key?!!

If Khushi saw what I am doing, she'd start yapping.

I tell her how she goes on and on, she tells me that's because I'm the silent type...

and she balances me.

Yeah yeah I get it. I talk less.

Okay, I don't talk...

On the phone, for "so tell me more!" I have no answer.
But I don't get it.

Why is it...

so important to talk!

I mean when I get back from office, she asks, how was your day... what did you do...

and I say, I went to the office, signed some contracts, ate... came back!

These days I'm trying to improvise...

the other day I said that...

went to the office, asked for tea...

didn't put sugar in it...

then I get told I don't know how to talk.

Exactly! I can... hear them laughing.

When we had just got married... Khushi wanted to celebrate...

the anniversary of every event!

And trust me the things that she would remember.

"This day you spoke nicely to me for the first time!"

"On this day you wiped my tears the first time..."

Actually, I've never told her, but I remember all the days clearly too.

Like, that day, when she made me laugh the first time.

On your cheek...

Khushi:
What!

ASR:
Not on that one...

Khushi:
What was I thinking! You'll forgive me, won't you?

You won't forgive me?

Oh God!

Oh... whatever I did...

I didn't do on purpose...

because of the dhakdhak and acidity...

I made a mistake...

ASR:
Khushi, you...!!

Anjali:
Chhotey! You... YOU are laughing?!

I can't believe you're laughing like this.

I'm hearing your laughter after so many years.

ASR:
I still can't understand... if you put besan batter on someone's face...

how can the person not know?!

Oh! speaking of besan (gram flower)...

Bua ji's famous besan laddoos...

and more boxes of sweets means... more gifts from khushi's parents.

Oh by the way... Khushi's Babu ji is alright now.

he's completely recovered from his paralysis and...

and his sweet shop is up and running now... in Lucknow.

A year's quota of jalebis for Khushi...

which she'll demolish in a day!

And this dry Mewa for her diabetic husband.

Perhaps Di will know where that key is.

But Di will be busy now...

Di runs an NGO now... for street kids.

Their well being, education... she takes care of everything.

If Khushi and I go to the NGO, then Di makes it a point...

to call me Chhotey in front of everyone.

And everyone starts laughing, of course.

Yes, Aman!

Okay!

Listen, where's that thing I asked for?

Oh, okay, sorry... got it!

Oh, thank God... tickets to Lucknow...

And the mannat key.

Can you imagine... me and "mannat?"

But, in my defence, the mannat wasn't mine.

Khushi's mannat and Di's mannat.

What Khushi asked for I don't know.

But Di must have asked that I find love in my life.

But Di must have never imagined...

that Khushi... is the answer to her mannat.

She was always in front of me...

In the office...

At the dargah...

At home...

In the boot of my car...

Akash:
Notice anything different about me?

I'm not wearing glasses?!!

ASR:
Did you take them off because they came in the way?

Akash:
Comes... in the way.. of?

Yeah I so miss that ASR (we can talk for hours about the "my" man part if you want!😆)

Also agreeing with you about his voice! I used to squeal in happiness whenever I heard him speak English with that accent especially all the "Damn it", "Get out" and "Shut up"

Like Indi di said, the target audience for them have apparently changed, I don't get who are the target audience in first place? And whatever was the reason behind a reunion thrown out of the blue? Even if I try, I can't reconcile with the view that it's a magnanimous gesture by the channel towards the show fans. Nope, they are too business minded for such generosity.

It could be any, maybe because they are extending services of hotstar to other countries and IPK enjoys a decent, okay more than decent popularity overseas, they decide to encash on that, yet again.
Or the incessant spam since 3 years had eaten up all their bandwidth and they were suffering from slow internet 😆(and that irritated the hell out of them, not that far fetched for I remember not long ago, somebody from star calling the spammers sadistic) and they decided to end it once and for all. (that is far fetched.)

Whatever be the reason, I at least get to see that rarer than blue moon sight on screen. I honestly wasn't expecting much, so in that way I am pretty satisfied with what Jashn has to offer.

Coming back to the question of target audience, I was 17 or 18 when I got hooked on to this show, detested the cheesy even then. If they think all teenaged girls like, are pink rooms, cuddle teddies, mushy talks and peppy dance songs, they are gravely mistaken. Even the idea of romance is so misconstrued. Why is it necessary to reconcile all differences between two human beings for them to be in love?

The essence of IPK was in its portrayal of relationships, be it sibling relationships or friendship or romance. And in all these relationships, the contrasting traits of the people in them were the highlight of the show. IPK's beauty was in love blooming despite the conflicts and not love blooming because we seeked counselling sessions from each other and worked our asses off to excoriate the conflict so that we can fall in love, peacefully.

No, I don't have issues with Jashn, but I have had issues ever since they showed ASR partaking in rasams and kasams to please his beloved. Not issue per se with the characterization, I understand people do things for the happiness of those they deeply love despite the said things being out of their comfort zone. ASR did it earlier for Anjali, he then did it for Khushi. What I have issues with is the psyche that runs behind it.
The idea that he changed, she changed him or he changed himself for love. Then whom did she love in the first place? A man whom she wanted to change? Am I making sense here? So she did not fall for the man, she fell for the project. The excitement of taking up a difficult project and then moulding it as per your wishes. Huh? 😲

In the last couple of months of IPK, they gave us an uncomfortably mellowed Arnav and a bratty, aggravating buffoon Khushi, nah she wasn't anymore the girl I rooted for, related with, adored. Nor was he the man I fell head over heals for.
If Khushi who lectured Lavanya on not to burn crackers on Diwali for they encourage child labour in 2011 had to be lectured by her husband on the same in 2012 while she sulks, "ek bomb mein kya jaata hai, laad governor kahinke..." then she can also steal the scooter of her own shop. And they can have off screen segments ki photoo adorning the bedroom walls. It's all much acceptable, to be taken with a pinch of salt and gargled with lukewarm water of nostalgia. 😆

Hi cineraria!

Loved evrything about your comment!! But I think I prefer the last episodes Raizada to the one they are giving us in Ek Jashn! Seeing all the episodes altogether made quite sense about the so called "character development" but now (after three years for you and 2 for me) it is really odd to see him like that

This all makes me want to accept that last episodes of IPKKND and as you perfectly penned down, with the "mellowed ASR and Buffoon Khushi"! As much as I loved Aarav I could not believe that ASR would accept him like that and also with all he did and said to Khushi, ASR didn't react at all!

And the crackers thing was exasperating like they even forgot what they did just an year ago! I think from that thing we should have guessed that after a 3-year break Ek Jashn will completely not be related to IPKKND, except for the actors and the names!
