"I sometimes feel we should put a board outside our house saying "Hum sab paagal hain"," laughs Ustad Amjad Ali Khaan who was in town to promote his album. Adds wife Subhalakshmi, "We all walk away in different directions after we've had a difference of opinion but when we meet for tea or lunch after that things get figured out."
They perfectly complement each other; both frank and straightforward they are the rare celebrities who reply to every question put forth without saying "it's personal".
"I've got flak for being frank and people think I'm rude and a recluse which is not true. I'm just so busy that I don't find time to socialise," says Subhalakshmi who also admits that it's difficult being the only woman in the family.
"I'm one against three (laughs). But it's also fun to be screaming at them and getting things done," she smiles.
Right now, the musician is on a high after composing an album on which he worked with ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas. "It was my husband's suppressed desire and I'm very happy he finally composed the album - I think it's beautiful," says Subhalakshmi.
The couple are very happy for their younger son Ayaan Ali Khan who will be settling down very soon but also hope that Amaan gets hitched soon as well. So why did things not work out for Amaan?
"Parents only have best wishes for their kids. Sometimes things don't work out and I will never blame anybody for it; especially the girl or her family because it's nobody's fault," says Khan.
Adds Subhalakshmi, "I'm happy that Ayaan is settling down but I would have been happier if things would have worked out for Amaan as well. Sometimes people are not so compatible and it does hurt but we are nobody to say anything bad about others."
With a big marriage celebration ahead, this Delhi based family will be seeing more of Mumbai. "The girl is from Mumbai so yes we'll be coming down more often," she ends.
