Part 1 on page 8, part 2 on page 9. This is the 3rd and the last part. Do read only when you're bored since it's long.
At half an hour before five the next morning the manager gave them their morning call. Prachi had already risen and shone, while Milind with closed eyes held onto the blanket as if it's his life, refusing to wake up. But then finally at five, when the world was still dark and misty, the manager brought them to a spot on the beach not so far from their bungalow and introduced them to another man. This one man was to be their guide, the captain of a traditional boat which would take them to their destination and also the only crew of it. Without further ado the three of them shook hands with the manager and got into the small boat and then sped towards the dark ocean.
Prachi kept bending down and touched the water that was splashed open on the side of the boat, while Milind was more interested in knowing how the guide operated the rather strange looking vehicle. It took them more than one hour to reach their destination, which was in the middle of no where. The guide turned the engine off, and both Milind and Prachi looked around the ocean, while the first light of the sun began to shine upon them. The water was perfectly still, and there's nearly no sound. For about five minutes none of them said or did anything. Milind raised one eyebrow and gave Prachi 'I told you so' look, but she chose to ignore him and instead watched the sunrise. Which was happening right behind her husband's back. Milind looked at the water curiously again, and Prachi took that chance to steal some glances at him. But then suddenly the guide shouted something they couldn't understand, and it successfully gained both Milind's and Prachi's attention.
The guide's message became obvious with his gesture. He pointed at a spot not too far from where the boat was floating. Prachi let out a fascinated shriek. She saw them, swimming towards them. Dolphins, and there were so many of them. Their dark, seemingly slick bodies glittered with the new born sunlight, they dived and surfaced swiftly, breaking the perfectly still water. So quickly the dolphins reached the boat and without any hesitation they dived and passed under the boat. Milind and Prachi moved to look at them, the dolphins' beautiful features clearly visible down there under the sea, the depth that was sparkling with colorful planktons.
Soon another school of dolphins came towards them, then another one, and before long the boat was nearly surrounded by hundreds of dolphins passing by so swiftly. Prachi couldn't keep her excitement and gracefully jumped off the boat. Milind didn't like the idea even when he knew that Prachi was a very good swimmer. He confirmed again with the guide that the sea was safe, that there's no shark or other dangerous creatures that might take her as their breakfast. Again the guide convinced him. Milind then threw a lifebuoy tied to the boat at her and demanded her not to let go of the lifebuoy. She laughed and said she wouldn't let it go too often. He could only pout. Prachi was truly amazed by the friendly sea creatures. The dolphins were quite tame by nature. Although the schools were swimming swiftly as if heading for some destinations, some of them stopped by her side and looked at her curiously. She touched one and found that it's not at all slick as it looked. She hung on to the fin of another dolphin and let it carry her for some short distance before she heard her husband's thundering reprimand. She let it go and swam back to the boat. Hugging the lifebuoy, she persuaded him to join her.
Milind was thinking about doing just that when suddenly a rather loud splashing sound was heard. He turned towards the sound and saw that a school of dolphins had just decided to put on a show. One by one they jumped high above the water and did single, double and even triple flips, each dolphin with different style. Milind was agape. So now he knew that the people in the zoo or Sea World didn't really teach the dolphins to do the trick, for the dolphins could actually do it by nature. He reached for his video camera and started filming the show. Prachi clapped her hands merrily seeing the fantastic performances.
Then while watching she realized that she forgot to take her mangalsutra off. She was lucky it hadn't floated and disappeared. She quickly took if off her neck, thinking about asking the guide to keep it for her. But then to her horror something snatched it from her hand. Prachi didn't even think. With all her strength she pursued the thief. Thoughts about danger or the fact that she shouldn't have dived without wearing the diving suit or breathing equipment didn't even cross her mind. She dived and swam so quickly like never before, concentrating only to one single creature.
The dolphin was never far from her, so she kept pursuing, until she suddenly found that she could no longer proceed. The pressure of the water was already too strong for her to fight, for she had dived too deep. It was as if the time had frozen, everything moved in extreme slow motion for her. She could see the greenish planktons below, the sunlight that still reached where she was, her own floating hair, and also not too far from her, the tail of the playful large fish. The dolphin, feeling that it's no longer being pursued, turned around and swam towards Prachi who was immobile. It was just playing around (otherwise Prachi would never manage to catch its speed) and it could sense that the game was over. Right in front of Prachi, the dolphin let the mangalsutra off its mouth and then swam away. Prachi slowly grab the mangalsutra, and tied it safely to her left arm. Only after finishing the task she fully realized that she wouldn't have the time or energy to reach the surface. She was caught by overwhelming panic, and the world continued to move again in full speed. It was as if the water had decided to swallow her; she couldn't bear the pressure and she needed air desperately. She wasn't even sure if she remembered being pulled forcefully…
The next thing she knew she was choking off water from her lungs and mouth. Her back was obviously lying on something rough and Milind was towering above her with quite a frightening expression. After coughing a few times and regained her breath, she raised her body up into sitting position and then looked at him fearfully. Milind struck her so hard and so fast she could hardly do anything but yelp. 'Have you gone crazy?! What the heck were you thinking?! You could have died!!' She held her burning cheek and started to cry miserably. She wasn't sure why she was crying. It could have easily come from her relief as well as from the slap. Milind retreated from her and sat down, hiding his face from her sight.
Prachi soon realized the boat was moving in a quite higher speed than she thought possible. The guide was busy yelling something at her, and she was about to tell him that she's alright when she understood that the guide was worrying about something else. She finally saw the blood on her hands and body. She's not hurt so this could not be hers. She ignored her remaining fatigue and headache, and walked towards Milind in a hurry. She could see now that he had become pale and blood was pouring from his left arm. There's a piece of iron somewhere on the bottom part of the boat, and while dragging Prachi up the boat Milind somehow got his arm cut deeply by it. Prachi felt like fainting but she swiftly collected herself, grabbed one scarf she kept in her bag and tied it tightly to Milind's arm to stop the bleeding. She remembered that a wound should be above the heart in altitude so the blood wouldn't pour out so badly, so she also made Milind raised his hand. He said nothing and only winced, his lips are pale and Prachi had never been that scared before. Not even when she knew she was going to die under the water.
They needed another 30 minutes to finally reach the shore. The guide called the manager and without much delay Milind was brought to a hospital, with all their stuff as well. The manager took care of the paper and registration, so Prachi got nothing to do but to wait outside the Emergency Room. Although it felt like she had to wait forever, actually she only waited for an hour or only a bit more. Milind was asleep when they brought him outside and then to a VVIP room. She was told that he would be fine; his wound had been taken care of. He indeed lost a lot of blood but they had replaced that with blood transfusion, and it's possible for him to leave the hospital that night. Prachi said she wanted to make sure everything was alright with Milind and she wanted him to stay in the hospital at least until the next day. The doctor agreed. Relieved that Milind was fine, Prachi remembered that they were supposed to leave Bali for Mumbai in the evening of that day. She went down to the lobby of the hospital where calls were allowed to be made and contacted few people with her mobile. First to take care of their plane tickets, and another to send news to their family. She simply couldn't say the real thing about Milind for fear that Mishraji couldn't take the shock, so she just informed them that she and Milind would prolong their stay for a day or two. It was her sister (not Ayesha, the other sister) who picked up the phone, so after being teased for a few minutes finally Prachi cut the call.
When she reached Milind's room there was a nurse inside, and she was cleaning Milind's unconscious body with towel and water. Prachi felt a strange feeling, that she didn't like what the nurse was doing to her husband. The nurse looked up and smiled, 'Good day, Mrs. Mishra. Doctor's order, the sea water shouldn't stay so long. And Dear, look at you! Why don't you leave him in my care for a moment and take a shower?' For a moment Prachi was confused. But then she looked into the nurse's eyes and knew the other woman was simply being kind. She looked at herself and sighed. She was dirty and even covered with blood. Her heart was pained yet again to remember that it's Milind's blood. She then smiled, asked the nurse to take a good care of her husband and went into the bathroom. When she finally got out clean, refreshed and calmer, the nurse was already gone.
Prachi came closer to Milind's bed and sat on the chair next to it. She took his healthy hand and put it on her cheek lovingly. Tears began trickling down without her knowing how to stop them. He looked pale yet peaceful; his handsome feature showed none of the pain he must have suffered not too long time before. She continued sobbing silently. She could have lost him, and the thought was too much to bear. To lose this man whom she loved even more than she loved herself… Then she remembered that he had saved her. He was hurt for saving her… The thought brought remorse yet she couldn't help feeling hopeful as well. She's sure that Milind would have saved anyone in such circumstances, but still she felt happy because she mattered enough for him to bother, that he didn't despise her enough to let her drown.
He woke up at night that day. She explained to him what had happened but he didn't really say anything. After eating his dinner and medicine, he quickly fell asleep again. In the morning he insisted to leave the hospital and because the doctor was certain he didn't need to stay any longer, they went back to the bungalow.
In the car on their way to the bungalow, Prachi said she's sorry for everything, for causing him such trouble and pain. And she thanked him for saving her life. He didn't reply, just made unclear sounds, turned his head towards the window and ignored her. Prachi felt shattered. Being ignored by him was even harder to deal than usual. Maybe he was upset for being in such pain because of her. She struggled to keep her eyes dry.
Soon after they reached the bungalow Milind prepared himself for a shower. With difficulties he successfully set up the protector the hospital gave him onto his left arm, to keep the wounded arm dry. Prachi saw that and said, touching his arm gently, 'Milind? Are you going to take a shower? Let me help you, then. It will be difficult to take a shower with one hand.' Milind looked at her with a strange expression for a few seconds, but then he shook his head, shrugged her hand off and entered the bathroom alone.
It was all too much for Milind. When he realized that Prachi was in danger, he felt like life had left his body. Never before in his life had he felt so terrified. Dragging her out from the water was a torture, not knowing whether he had made it in time to save her. He knew right then that she had become his everything, that he loved her more than he thought possible. Admitting it wasn't easy but he had to. He didn't even notice that he was wounded until he found out that she was alright. And what had he done afterwards? He hit her. He couldn't control his emotion and he was just so angry at her for not being careful, for never taken care of herself like she should have. He knew he would never deserve her; he was a brute and he's too rough for her. She deserved someone more refined, a true gentleman who would never hurt her in any way. No wonder why she could never love him. She really shouldn't. The warm water soaked his hair and body, and he remembered her offer to help him showering. What was she thinking? He doubted she actually knew what she was saying. He couldn't help imagining her with him at that very moment, gently brushing his back with a bath sponge. She then dropped the sponge and touched him with her hand, first his back then moved slowly towards his chest… He had to switch to cold water.
When she heard Milind getting out from the bathroom Prachi wanted to give him a hand with wearing his clothes, but she soon saw that he's dressed already. While walking towards the bed he rubbed his hair with a large towel rather forcefully with one hand, drying it rather effectively. After he thought his hair was dry enough he put the towel away and lie on the bed. The medicine he was taking had sedative in it, so he felt weak most of the time. For a moment he closed his eyes, contemplating about leaving the country in the evening of that very day. He had so many things to organize in Mumbai, and this delay would only add his work. Not too long afterwards he opened his eyes abruptly for he was without mistake hearing soft sound of sobs.
Prachi had her back at him, but even so he could see her slender body shaking with her sobs. She was wearing her pink Sari, one that never failed to showcase her charm. Milind was lost. Why was she crying? 'Prachi', he called. She straightened herself, obviously startled. She took some moments and then turned towards him. 'Yes, Milind?' She had managed to wipe her tears, he noted. He sighed and gestured her to come closer to him. She hesitantly sat on the bed by his side when he told her to. Milind tilted her chin upwards and looked deeply into her eyes, questioning her. 'Why are you crying?' Her first thought was to answer that she wasn't crying. But his caring and gentle gestures squeezed her heart so bad she couldn't help another streams of tears rolling down on her cheek.
'Milind, please forgive me… I see you're mad at me and that's because I was foolish but I just can't take it. Not now, not after I was so worried about you I nearly lost my mind…' Milind was surprised that she would say something like that. He confusedly asked, 'Why did you do that? I mean why did you stray so far from the boat?' Prachi cried more tears, and shamefacedly touched her mangalsutra, playing with it with her fingers nervously. 'You might not believe it but one of the dolphins stole this mangalsutra from me. It just grabbed my mangalsutra and without thinking I dashed for it…' Milind widened his eyes; if it's not Prachi who said it he might indeed have difficulties in believing. 'That's foolish. You didn't have to do such thing only for that.' Prachi's eyes blazed not out of anger, but of determination. 'I know, and I'm sorry, but how could I not do it? This is the symbol of our marriage, and I believe I have to keep it safe so you'll be safe always…'
His heart beat harder. So she cared that much for him, and for their marriage. Could it be that she even loved him in some way? But the thought of his savage action haunted him again, and he turned his face away from her. 'I… I'm sorry I've hit you. I didn't mean to, but I couldn't think straight. You have made me realize how much I… worry about you.' He still didn't dare to look at her. 'Milind,' she called and he hesitantly looked at her again, and his heart nearly stopped. Prachi was still crying, but she was giving him the softest, sweetest smile he never imagined existed. 'What I feel is only gratitude for what you've done. You have saved my life. Please don't mind about other things. There's nothing to forgive and even if there was, I have already forgiven you long before you ask.' She was so happy that he confessed how much he worried about her, which meant he really cared.
He couldn't stop his hand from moving towards her, his fingers from touching her face, his thumb from trying to wipe her tears. But her tears didn't stop. He tilted her face and bent his head, replacing his fingers with his lips. He could feel that she stopped crying immediately. Yet he couldn't stop, his lips trailed down her wet cheek and soon found her lips. He gently kissed the side of her lips. She let out a soft moan. He kissed her fully and she shuddered visibly. He continued savoring her mouth, his arm wrapped around her and his hand caressing her silky hair. She hugged him; her hands tugged his shirt, for she's feeling like falling. His lips left hers and she felt lost, but then he went down, kissed her chin, and then went lower to her soft neck, caressing it. He continued slightly downwards. Her heart was thumping so hard as if it's about to explode. She thought he was going even lower and held her breath with anticipation, but he returned to her lips, gave her a soft light kiss, then left her lips and simply hugged her. She could feel his heavy breathing getting calmer, she's somewhat confused but she took in his scent lovingly, calming herself as well, enjoying his warmth.
Moments passed and when he finally broke the embrace, he smiled at her and told her he's hungry and ready for lunch. She suddenly felt shy, smiling embarrassedly and went to prepare the lunch for him. He told her he wanted to leave Bali that evening, and though she wished they could stay longer she agreed quickly. He made few calls and they managed to get tickets for a flight in a few hours. After the lunch Prachi organized their few stuff and then they left for the airport, which took about two hours from the hotel. On that late afternoon they got into the plane, and headed for home.
Sitting comfortably on her seat just next to Milind's, Prachi shyly looked at him. He smiled gently, and caressed her lips with his thumb. She shied away and then buried her face on his chest. He embraced her, but his mind was in turmoil. Whatever it was that she was feeling for him, he simply didn't deserve it. How could they start anything after what he's done with Ayesha? He needed to settle things first. He also needed to let them escape that heaven, the captivating feeling of the erotic tropical island, to let Prachi return to reality and her true feelings. He just knew that whatever lies ahead, he would not blame her for anything. With that he silently sighed and looked at the world outside the plane's window, while the sun began to set gracefully.
