The King & His Kingdom
As the King' of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, turned 50 yesterday, a sea of fans waited outside his palatial house, Mannat, just to get a glimpse of their favourite superstar. And SRK did not disappoint. At regular intervals, Khan walked on to his terrace and waved to his fans, who turned delirious every time they spotted him.
The actor also met the media at a suburban hotel, where he gave journalists a gala evening. Just like all his film promotional events, his birthday press conference was a grand affair, complete with delectable food and entertaining events. The very moment SRK entered the room, he was welcomed with a deafening cheer. The actor said, "My birthday is not complete if I don't spend time with you (media) guys." Here's a peak at what happened at one of the hottest events of the year':
SRK on his 50th birthday resolution
I never make resolutions but now that I have completed a half century, I have decided that I will smile more.
What he did on his 50th birthday
My kids (Aryan and Suhana) had come home, so I dropped them to the airport. I don't have any special attachment to any numbers, whether age or box-office collections. So it was like celebrating any other birthday.
On his journey so far
The journey has been outstanding and wonderful. The last 25 years of work have been very nice. There were happy moments, sad moments, good days and bad days. If I had the chance to change anything, I wouldn't. I would choose to live this life again.
On his upcoming film FAN
I have completed 25 years in the industry and have done all kinds of roles. I don't like to compare any of my films with other films but I have to say that Fan is a very special film in my career, especially because of the love and passion Maneesh Sharma and Aditya Chopra's team have for me and this film. I don't know if I have done this correctly but I want to do five films in my career which I can show my kids and Fan is one of them.
On two turning points in his life
Two things that changed my life are one, when I lost my parents; and, two, when I got Aryan, Suhana and Abram in my life.
On doing three films a year
Now that I have turned 50, I have decided to do three films a year. But I don't mean any three films. I want to choose three films that I will love. My kids now watch different kinds of cinema, so working with new filmmakers is something I am looking forward to. I just said I wish to do three films in a year but offer nahi hua hai ab tak. I also hope new filmmakers approach me with some interesting stories.
On Dilwale clashing with Bajirao Mastani
The two films are releasing together and all my friends are working in them, including the director and producers. I want their movie to be a huge hit just as I want my film to be one, because my team, Rohit Shetty, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, have worked very hard on Dilwale. Achcha nahin hai (clash) but because we shave a limited slate to release films, one sometimes doesn't have an option. But this is a time of year when two films can do good business even if they release together.
On working in the West
I have never been offered any work in the West. I always said that the films we make in India should be watched and loved by the Western audience. But if something interesting is offered, I am open to it.
On opening an acting school
I would love to start an institution where people and upcoming actors can learn acting. That's one of my dream projects. I would like foreign filmmakers to come and teach in India so that we learn every technique.
