Sushant and Katrina in Half Girlfriend?

Katrina Kaif has made it to the heroine's slot in Ekta Kapoor's ambitious adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's novel Half Girlfriend. Sushant will play her male counterpart.

For those who've come in late, Katrina and Sushant were the original choices for Gattu's Fitoor which finally saw Aditya Roy Kapoor stepping into Sushant's shoes after the Kai Po Che actor opted out.

Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan were supposed to do Half Girlfriend, but they both gave preference to Karan Johar's Shuddi which in turn delayed Half Girlfriend. This KJo film was first supposed to be done by Hrithik-Kareena, followed by Ranveer-Deepika. That it has been kept at the back-burner now is a different story (Varun-Alia's Shuddi put on hold. Again!, October 5).


Half Girlfriend's director Mohit Suri approached Deepika Padukone for the role of the girl from the elite background and Shahid Kapoor to play her Bhojpuri speaking boyfriend..

Meanwhile, Sidharth Malhotra started sending feelers to Suri to fit him in. Around the same time, Katrina too essayed equal enthusiasm to play the female lead (Katrina sending text messages to Mohit to bag Alia's role, Sep 30).

The game of musical chairs is almost over. Everything seems sorted now. If all goes well, Suri hopes to take the film on floors in the first quarter of 2016 with Katrina and Sushant heading the cast.
