Jagjit Singh hospitalised
Acclaimed ghazal and playback singer Jagjit Singh was admitted to Bombay Hospital on Monday morning after he complained of weakness. He has been diagnosed with a mild circulatory problem in the brain.
Known for his silky voice and heart tugging renditions of songs like 'Tum itna jo muskura raheho' and 'Hosh waalon ko', Jagjit Singh, who turned 60 this year, has had an active singing career of nearly two decades.
Dr K E Turel, who is attending on him, said there was no cause for worry. "He is fine now. If there had been a delay in providing medical attention, it could have led to a stroke." Stress or irregularity in taking medication may have caused the problem," he said.
Singh is expected to remain in the hospital for a few more days. While his wife Chitra Singh was unavailable for comment, Jagjit's close friend and associate, music director Shamir Tandon said, "He is always so energetic and positive. It is indeed very depressing to learn that he is in hospital. I only hope he recovers quickly."
