Chapter 1
Arnav Singh Raizada, Khushi thinks, is one of the most amusing creatures she has ever encountered, as the said man tries his hardest to control his explosive temper.
Khushi's always found humour in the most morbid of situations. Beneath the veneer of cheer and happiness, she's always been unusually fascinated with people who've genuinely believed in something.
Arnav Singh Raizada genuinely believed that the world was his stage, he'd brought it and reshaped it.
For the sake of safety, she steps back, and then takes another step forward. Her heart beats with trepidation, but somewhere she finds this all incredibly funny. There's that vein throbbing in his neck, like a cabaret dancer shimmying her voluptuous breasts. The idea of her boss's vein being a cabaret dancer, of course, doesn't help.
She's stepping back, and he's coming forward. She's genuinely starting to worry now. What if he fires her? Is he those rapist types?
Devi maiyya, she says. A force of habit.
She's still stepping back, and he's stalking forward with some unknown purpose and Khushi privately wonders, in that corner of her brain which never stops finding humour in every situation ever, whether he'd danced as a child.
The image of an suit-boot Arnav twirling like a ballerina, pops up.
Her foot fumbles around for ground, but there's none and he's still walking towards her and the ground seems to have ended (it had but whatever).
She's going to fall, Khushi thinks dejectedly, wondering what her mother would say at this yet new clumsy experience.
She does fall, but not before he offers her hand and deliberately lets go as if its some sick, twisted game to prove he is the ruler of the roost. Of course, there is that twinge of guilt that usually follows a bout of uncontrolled rage but he squelches it.
She deserved it, he thinks.
Later, as he sits at his table, Aman brings him an official looking notice.
"What's that?" He asks, sharply.
"Khushi, sir. She's filed a case against you. Because you threw her out of the window"
He reads the file carefully, and then reads the email his brother had sent him.
"Meeting tomorrow with board. Your behavior unacceptable. Check news"
With some trepidation and mostly anger, he switches on the television. There's an interview. "Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada proposed sexual relations with me" she announced. "When I refused, he threw me out his window"
He switches the TV off with growing anger, and a little smudgeon of respect which he would squelch. It seemed, Khushi Kumari Gupta could play the game quite decently.
With a tired sigh, he prepares his next move.
