Is this show inspired by Revenge? And by revenge, I mean Revenge the American nighttime drama. There are many similarities or building ones rather that seem to hint towards that. If so, great. More power to the CVs. Survi will eventually grow to be one of the most badass Indian serial heroines ever.
OVERVIEW OF REVENGE: For those of you who have never watched Revenge, the plot focuses around Emily Thorne. Emily Thorne comes to the Hamptons and rents a beach house next to the Grayson family mansion for the summer. Emily however, is really Amanda Clarke, whose father was framed for treason when she was a little girl. After a lengthy trial, her father was imprisoned for life, and was murdered in prison by agents of the people who framed him. Amanda was separated from him after his trial and never saw him ever again afterwards. She returns to the Hamptons as an adult years later to exact revenge on those who wronged her and her father. Her primary target is Victoria Grayson, matriarch of the Grayson family, who betrayed Amanda's father.
GLARING SIMILARITES BETWEEN REVENGE AND YEH VAADA RAHA:
~ All of the hand holding symbolism and emphasis on vaada's mirrors the running theme of the double infinity symbol in Revenge.
~ Srikant is to Kartik as David was to Nolan. Nolan became the man he was due to David. The same is said here for Kartik and Srikant. David was the only one who saw potential in Nolan; he believed in him and knew that he was destined for so much better - David invested in Nolan - giving him the money he needed to fulfill his dream. That dream paid off and Nolan quickly became one of the world's youngest billionaires. This parallels the events in Yeh Vaada Raha after the leap. Srikant gave Kartik the means Kartik needed to strive for a better life, and as we've seen after the leap - Srikant wasn't wrong; his faith in Kartik wasn't misplaced. Kartik is now a rich industrialist. Kartik is what he is, because of Srikant.
~ Survi being ripped away from her father and separated from him while Srikant is imprisoned for a crime he did not commit mirrors what happened to Amanda and David. David and Srikant were both framed for money laundering and fraud.
~ Nolan promised David to always look after Amanda, the same way Kartik promised Srikant he would look after Survi. Nolan took his role so seriously that when he set up his business, he made Amanda a 49% shareholder in his corporation and assets, the same way Kartik made sure Srikant and Survi had a 50% claim to his properties as well.
~ The posh Hamptons society versus the mob. Both social circles are cutthroat and dangerous. Amanda eventually took on the false identity of Emily Thorne in order to exact her revenge on the people that framed her father and took him from her. In Yeh Vaada Raha, it is Kartik that we (the audience) feared would have to choose between the life Srikant hoped for him or the one Kamla Taayi intended he would be led astray in.
The interesting thing about this show is the mob ties. This is what differentiates YVR from all of the other soaps on Zee. It adds an interesting layer to Kartik as a character. It makes him more formidable in a way, knowing that he is a character that is not only book smart but street smart as well. Emerging out of the mob lifestyle also gives him this air that he is someone who shouldn't be messed with. And in a fight, we know he can definitely handle himself.
If YVR is inspired by Revenge, then after an eventual leap - it could be Survi who may take on a new identity and descend into the mob lifestyle in order to avenge her father; using the mob that Taayi is so proud and boastful of, and using it against her in order to seek revenge.
~ All the Survi/Aniket rumours mirror Amanda's pursuit of Daniel (Victoria's son) in order to make a place for herself within the Grayson family to bring them down. Similarly Survi could also do the same - pursue Aniket after the leap and manipulate him inso allowing her into Taayi's life years later; unrecognizable to Taayi so that she could seek her revenge.
~ Kartik is a combination of all of the significant men in Amanda's life. Given that this is an Indian soap, Zee wouldn't be so scandalous as to pair Survi against four different love interests. What's interesting here, is that Kartik already has shown the qualities of all of these men: Nolan (the billionaire/guardian), Jack (her childhood friend/true love), Aiden (the fighter/her equal/her soulmate), Daniel (manipulated by family/target/lost soul).
~ Foreshadowing: "in four years you haven't changed a bit" - Amanda's drastic makeover is what blindsided the villains when she finally returned into their lives as a grown up. Kartik keeps saying this over and over: "you haven't changed a bit." The repetition of these words has almost started to sound like a warning.
