It is true that Chander and Sudha has to realize their feelings for each other naturally. They have to accept it. But then Pammi first hurt Sudha who has not really thought about giving a name to her relation with Chander.

And then to Chander she degraded the complete feelings. I mean to unite in the physical realm happens with 2 souls that are connected. And uniting in physical realm is not a sin, it's just a natural progression if you are connected so much at the soul level. When you cant separate your feelings take a route which is normally sanitized in a marriage and you are made man and wife.
When I watched Sudha running away asking Chander " I asked you what love is " actually it reminded me of Malayalam movie " Niram" where Sona asks Aby. I asked you before telling yes to Prakash, I asked you whether I can tell yes" and finally when she realizes she has to go away from him post marriage her most pertinent question " Why didn't you feel what Prakash felt for me" and Aby breaking down.
Problem of 1960 and the problem today is the fact that people feel if it is friendship it should not become love. If it becomes love then the sanctity of friendship is lost. Not necessarily. Certain friendships can never exist as friendships alone. Sometimes they go into a realm which has no name, sometimes they get a happy ending in marriage.
Just like Sudha says was Krishna Radha's or Rukmini's. He belonged to both women. Both the relations were sacred. One was his soul mate and other better half. And both relations had the emotional and physical aspect of love in it. But they are sacred. Then why, why a natural progression of feelings reaching physical realm is treated Gunah or crime.
That feeling which is pounded on the person that if he wants to keep his relation with a woman sacred or vica versa it should not have physical realm at all.
This confusion was the cause of misery for both Chander and Sudha. And this confusion still exists, destroying many lives.

Completely agree...beautifully expressed.
To add,
I would say that in most cases it is the circumstances...as far Krishna, Ruk, Mira
are concerned.. to my best knowledge, mira was just a devotee(who felt platonically attached to the lord) of Lord Krishna as she was born many many years ahead of Krishna...
Here in the story, Sudha's father allows Chander to be a part of his household but has never thought him as a prospective husband for her daughter...I think Chander very well knows it and controls his feelings out of respect for his Guru.
Though I love the character of Sudha..still I am unable to believe that a girl of Sudha's age doesn't know what love is...especially when she spends most of the time in close proximity of a young man...she may not have realized but not knowing the meaning...seems a bit a strange to me..

@cherrypansy shukla never looked at Chander as a prospective bridegroom for Sudha. Maybe he assumed theirs will be a bro-sis relation.
It happens in many homes. Those close relatives or someone who comes and goes in the family regularly it is expected that they will have a brother like relation with the female members of the family. Sometimes it will be true, but not always.
That blank assumption that if a girl and guy is not hus-wife, it is bro-sis by elders especially of those era have played havoc with many young people's feelings.
Because shukla never thinks Chander can love his daughter he ask him to go and make Sudha agree for the marriage. Yes it is the job of a loving elder brother.
Misreading of relation I would say by Shukla. Coming to Sudha the question is because the way Pammi asked her love again came to the physical realm and she doesn't know if her pure relation can come to the physical realm. That lack of knowledge love exists both in the emotional and physical realm is the cause of her worry.
Pammi made love completely physical something that has to be felt by body, for Sudha actually it is completely emotional one that has to be felt by soul. Actually it is both. Chander knows it, but then he treats physical realm of love as impure while the other pure.
Coming to Meera, she worshipped Krishna as her husband and her love for Krishna is expressed in the most beautiful poems called Meera Bhajans.
" Mere tho Giridhar Gopal, doosra na koi
jaake mukud mor phankh mero pati wohi"
It was a one sided love as Meera was not Krishna's contemporary.

Sudha's father never considered Chandar as a prospective husband for Sudha because Chandar is not Bramhin. Chandar knows that his guru is very rigid about caste system and strictly follows them. In today's episode they showed it.

@archana I felt caste a barrier when the issue of inter caste marriage was spoken in epi 9 and shukla sir clearly told his views for the caste system.
But didnt look into it explicitly
