It is true that Chander and Sudha has to realize their feelings for each other naturally. They have to accept it. But then Pammi first hurt Sudha who has not really thought about giving a name to her relation with Chander.
When I watched Sudha running away asking Chander " I asked you what love is " actually it reminded me of Malayalam movie " Niram" where Sona asks Aby. I asked you before telling yes to Prakash, I asked you whether I can tell yes" and finally when she realizes she has to go away from him post marriage her most pertinent question " Why didn't you feel what Prakash felt for me" and Aby breaking down.
Problem of 1960 and the problem today is the fact that people feel if it is friendship it should not become love. If it becomes love then the sanctity of friendship is lost. Not necessarily. Certain friendships can never exist as friendships alone. Sometimes they go into a realm which has no name, sometimes they get a happy ending in marriage.
Just like Sudha says was Krishna Radha's or Rukmini's. He belonged to both women. Both the relations were sacred. One was his soul mate and other better half. And both relations had the emotional and physical aspect of love in it. But they are sacred. Then why, why a natural progression of feelings reaching physical realm is treated Gunah or crime.
That feeling which is pounded on the person that if he wants to keep his relation with a woman sacred or vica versa it should not have physical realm at all.
This confusion was the cause of misery for both Chander and Sudha. And this confusion still exists, destroying many lives.
