Maybe kartik's dad's death happened in front of her..that shock would have made her mentally ill..

kartik's dad as per what Kartik's mom has said was surely a goon but i don't think he was in bhau's gang much because bhau was totally over making kartik feel he is favoured if by any mean he was in hi gang bhau would be sure of the fact that Kartik's dad was suceeded by kartik not trying to confirm it with his deeds

coming to shaanti's illness there can be two theories one as all of you'll have said Shanti has seen something major of which she is scared off or second kartik's father himself in some way had threatened shanti by showing the gun which has affected her mind but kartik's dad has relations with Shanti's illness in either way
