Is It necessary for a Bollywood playback singer to be a good live performer as well? 😛 i have seen many legends like udit narayan or kumar sanu are not good at live but they have done wonders in playback scenario

There are very few playback singers that can give one heck of a live performance! Most of them are not up to the level of singing when they sing live. You can sometimes hear the tiredness or the lack of practice. Playback singing for a movie is different in that you practice like crazy until you get it right. And let's not forget even a little bit of auto-tuning helps a whole lot! :)

With so much of talent around, I think live performances is a necessity for playback singers to survive. They earn so much from shows, though i personally prefer playback singing than live performance. I can even see a singer standing anf closing his eyes on stage and singing than live performers with besura awaaz.
