Part 3: Don't forget to leave comments, the good and the bad. I love hearing from the readers.

Ranaji: Touche, very well done. Now listen to reason. This is for your family.

He sat down next to her on the table with that irritable calm.

Gayatri: I will tell them you were busy. They already know what a hoity-toity king you are. You set quite an example at the wedding by walking out.

Ranaji sighed: You want to know why I walked out?

Gayatri: No, I think I will live.

He gritted his teeth.

Gayatri looked around unconcerned and nonchalantly scratched the armrest: I was thinking, this divan is pretty stiff.

Ranaji: What does that have to do with anything?

Gayatri: You slept here last night when you have a nice adjacent suite of your own. You should move there as of tonight.

Indravardhan understood now. She was kicking him out.

Ranaji: Badi Rani Ma thinks we are married. Not to mention...

Gayatri cut in: Not to mention, she knows this is a deal. She told me earlier, if she did not think this deal was advantageous to you, she would never consent to an "ordinary nobody" in the family. (He looked apologetic, she switched topics). As I was saying, you can move out. Or stay in this one and I will move there. This is Sulaksna's room afterall, maybe you want to live with her memories here.

Ranaji glared at her with glittering eyes: I know my grief looks obsessive to you, but this is what happens to a man who has lost the only woman he ever loved. Yes, I preserve her memory here. Maybe you would have understood if you knew anything of this kind of love. Whatever infatuation you dealt with clearly died in a matter of seconds last night.

Gayatri's cheeks burned red.

She said fiercely: Count you blessings it was fleeting, Indravardan Singh Rao! If I became obsessive, you would have a much tougher time with me.

Ranaji sarcastically: Oh, you can actually be more cutting than this? I am not surprised. You are an utter brat.

Gayatri shouted: I AM NOT...(she controlled herself) whatever, I don't know why I am wasting my time talking to you when I can be spending it with my family.

Gayatri walked out rigidly.

Indravardan was left in shock. He counted to a hundred to bring himself some patience and went after her.

At the gates...

Ranaji: Guards, guards! Where are all the cars?

A guard stepped in: Raniji said to take them to the wash, Maharaj. She took the last one and went to her parents with that old servant of hers, Maharaj.

Ranaji took a deep breath: Oh, she sent them all off, did she? Fine. Bring Hunter. Quickly!

Gayatri saw him galloping up far behind them in the rearview mirror and rolled her eyes.

Gayatri: Bade logonke cochle.

Kaka: Kuch kaha, bittya?

Gayatri: Kuch nehi.

At Sethji's house...

Govind: Chutkuliya!!! Everyone, Chutkuliya and Ranaji are here. Someone bring the arti!

Everyone came rushing.

Govind: But, where is Ranaji.

Gayatri at the door: Invite me in first, he is running late.

Ranaji galloped up: Humme aane me thodi der hogaye, shama chahete hai. Kya he ke sab gariya (he glared sideways at his bride, who looked unconcernedly ahead).

Her mother came in: No problem at all, aap aye, humare ghar ki ronnak bargayi.

Gayatri: Excuse me, I am the one who really came back.

Her father, mother, and brothers laughed and agreed, welcoming her in. They stuffed her (and him) with sweets and smiled indulgently.

No wonder, Indravardhan thought. Everyone here was wrapped around her little finger. She wasn't the least bit threatened by his anger because her father and brothers danced at her bidding like fawning male guardians.

Her mother came up to him and tried to see to it that he was comfortable. Ranaji felt a little uneasy at her constant attention to be generous with whom she thought her daughter held dear. If she knew the truth, Indravadhan would hate to see that version of the shrew's mother. If bacchi was like this when upset, he definitely did not want to see the mother.

After some rituals, they were shown to a room to rest before dinner. Gayatri maintained a stoic silence and went off to lay down on the bed. In moments, she was asleep.

Indravardhan smirked: So someone lost a little sleep last night afterall.

Dinner went relatively smoothly, with the family fussing over the two of them and stuffing them with every manner of food. Finally, when it was over, it was time to leave.

He sided over to Gayatri and said for only her ears: I am going in the car this time.

Gayatri shrugged: It is your car, did I say you could not?

He bit his retort back when her father came to bid tearful farewells.

Later that night...

Ranaji: I will give you the Raj suite, if you promise to wear red tomorrow.

Gayatri annoyed: What is it with you and red?

Ranaji: It is your mu-dikhayi tomorrow. It is considered extremely unlucky for royal women not to wear red on her initial few days as a bride.

Gayatri sarcastically: It is the same for us common lot. Imagine that... unlucky, how?

Ranaji retorted before thinking: Red shows good luck in the marriage, of course! It predicts (he stopped when her brow arched with that gotcha expression). Fine. We have no marriage. But for the world to know...

Gayatri: For the world to know you are blissfully happy with a trader's daughter, you need me a play a little red bride. So happy and in love with her new gilded cage of a marriage that essentially ruined her chances of actually ever finding true love.

Indravardhan was ashamed. He had indeed ruined her chance at a love like he once had. He had married her for the world and ruined her chance of finding a man who could actually love her and adore her.

When he looked up, he saw her eyes smarting with pain.

Gayatri slowly: Do you really not see how you have ruined my life?

Indravardhan: I am sorry.

Gayatri's tears rolled down her eyes: And I am embarrassed! Embarrassed for being the fool I have been all this time. You must have shared quite a laugh with your mother, no? Look at this fawning fool of a girl, she actually thinks I care about her.

Indravardhan looked down: I will show you to your new rooms.

Gayatri: I will find my own way. Thanks.

She briskly walked away, swiping at her tears, leaving Indravardhan feeling like half-a-man.

Yayy!

-Edited-

So his Lady wife is just not willing to budge! I like it. I would have loved to actually see Gayatri taking that horse on the way back and Rana doing a facepalm. 😆

Gayatri very smartly made Indravadan realise that he's truly ruined all her chances without actually subjecting herself to his pity and you've pulled that off totally coolly. But from what I have read so far, it seemed as if Indravadan is trying to be nice to her, in his own way, but she's been constantly snapping at him so now I'm wondering how long is he going to take it before he snaps and goes back to brooding mode. Time will tell!

And so, the wait begins... Counting the moments till the next update.
