~ CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO ~
Khushi's chest thumped fiercely. Below all that boiling anger, she could see the fear in his eyes. Fear so intense that he wouldn't think twice before eliminating the threat. Her breath was stuck in her throat. Of course, she didn't dare to say it out to anyone. And even if she wanted to, how on earth was she going to explain it? That she saw her boss playing with himself? That she heard moaning in ecstasy? That she discovered what he does behind closed doors? Watching po*n? What she saw was too hot for her to handle let alone talking about it! Yeesh!
"I won't," she said in a quiet whisper.
Arnav's face was still distorted with rage. "Pick up what you want and get out," he said in a low and dangerous growl before moving away from her and plopping onto his chair.
Very cautiously, Khushi browsed through his file cabinet and started to pull out the ones she needed. Throughout, she was extra careful to maintain a safe distance between herself and the monster. She had this weird creepy crawling feeling that he would pounce on her any minute! She didn't want to be caught by surprise when it happened!!! The entire scenario was like trying to pull out a huge piece of steak from the vicinity of a hungry lion. By the time she was done, she was almost blind with haste. Her muscles were all wobbling like jelly as she picked up the files and stumbled out for her dear life.
Now this was the moment Arnav was waiting for. He pushed the door close, plugged in his PC and turned it on. The video... the video... came from Lavanya...Lavanya!!? What the...? What's wrong with this girl? Why did she send me this shit?
He heaved in exasperation as he picked up his phone and rang up Lavanya.
"Hey baby," she drawled over the phone.
But before she could say another word, Arnav spat back in frustration. "Lavanya! What's wrong with you? Why did you send me that video? You know that I'm in the office! And you know that I would open your mails at any time of the day!!!"
"Video? What video?" Lavanya sounded surprised.
"Lavanya! Don't play innocent! Seriously, if this is one of your pranks, I'm going to..."
"What prank Arnav?" Lavanya was genuinely surprised, "And which video are you talking about? I didn't send you anything."
"What?" Arnav rubbed the nape of his neck in exasperation. "What do you mean that you didn't send it? Then who did?"
"I don't know, hang on. Let me check my mail."
Arnav got up from his chair and moved up and down impatiently. He felt like his ass was on fire! "Are you there?" he couldn't wait any longer to find out the truth.
"One minute," she replied, "I'm just checking my sent items."
He tsk-tsked and hissed impatiently before continuing his frantic up and down pace.
"Oh dear," came her reply, "this doesn't look good."
"What? What is it?" His chest thumped in anticipation. If Lavanya didn't send that mail, then who did?
"There it is, in my sent items," she stated in a worried tone, "Special celebrations at our company. Watch me here? What the? God. That's... I didn't send it!"
"What do you mean that you didn't send it?" he asked anxiously, "if you didn't then who did?"
"I don't know," she began to grow defensive, "I really don't know how it happened."
"But... it came from your e-mail!!"
"Arnav!" Lavanya was offended by his choice of words. "What are you trying to suggest? Are you calling me a liar?"
"What? Lavanya, come on," her flaring temper shut down his furnace within seconds, "that's not what I meant..."
"Then what was it?" her voice grew shaky by the minute. "When you said if you didn't, then who did' what did you mean?!! Huh? What did you mean by that?"
"Baby, just calm down." His conversation with Lavanya wasn't doing any good to his present state of mind. It just made the situation worse. "See what I meant was that... what if someone had hacked into your mail? Or maybe it's a virus? It's possible right?"
"So you could have taken it forward differently!" she snapped in a tear choked voice. "But that's not what you did! You just started yelling at me!"
"I wasn't yelling at you!" From the frying pan and into the fire. That's how he felt now!
"Yes you were!" she snapped. "Do you know... I was just waiting to talk to you. And what did you do? First thing in the morning... You just started to yell at me!" The words she uttered began to dissolve into tears.
"Okay-okay-okay-fine-fine!" He interrupted her before she broke down bawling. "Let's not fight, okay? Say what. We'll catch up in the evening. My place. It's been quite a while as it is. What do you say?"
She just sniffled in response.
"You there?" Arnav hated it when Lavanya lost her cool. She had a very volatile personality. Anytime, anything could happen. Well, who was he to blame? He wasn't any better either!
"Bye," her voice quaked.
"Lavanya... baby... come on..." he sighed in complete defeat, but she cut the line on him. Now that was the last thing which he needed. He just collapsed onto his chair and took a deep breath. "God this is awful..." he muttered wearily and shook his head whilst rubbing his eyes. "This is probably the worst day in my life... all thanks to... Khushi Gupta..."
