Hi Guys,
I started watching ETR2 a couple of weeks back...despite my initial reluctance to watch the show...for so many reasons...
So what's new...I thought... Isn't it the same old story...The guy and the girl get married...not willingly ...but somehow it has to happen and then everything is well, eventually ...Frnakly speaking, the cycle promo put me off and I just didn't want to see a heroine who was forced into a marriage...because she was helpless, was forced, coerced, pressured or what have you...was too tired of watching these heroines who comrpromise for the sake of family, for the sake of society, for the sake of whatever helplessness they have...they have no choice but to marry the ML...and they conveniently fall in love with the aggressor ...and then everything turns out well...
But then I saw Gayatri...who was considered unfortunate by the society, was under the social pressure to accept defeat...to give in...but she doesn't...she dares to dream, dares to believe that what is her past doesn't have to be her future...despite the scarlet letter...she retains her innocent optimism about the world, believes in love...believes in fairy tales coming true...dares to fall in love...no not just because he is the prince ...but he is Prince Charming indeed...virtuous in every sense...charismatic, brave, just, kind, compassionate...a gentleman...Gayatri has witnessed it through her own eyes...There is no reason not to fall in love...despite what is acceptable behavior for women at the time...She dares...dares to dream, dares to make a choice...a choice to fall in love with the prince...a choice not to accept what is handed to her...dares to write a letter...so that her Prince Charming can come and save her...
I was hooked...I loved Gayatris characterization...I loved the father daughter relationship...a father...who tells his daughter...what is right is decided by what your consecience says is right...something that you don't regret after doing...not what society says is right or wrong...because societal definition of right and wrong may change with time...a father who tells his daughter to make the choice to not be attached to the stigma...and believe in her dreams...for she is worthy like no other...
I like the princes charcaterization...the mannerisms, the presence...the confidence, the view of the world...I like the characterization of Rajmata...the assertive nature, the arrogance...the capability to strategize...
But most of all...what I like about ETR right now...is the fairly tale nature of it...where the Cindrella marries the prince against all odds...where Gayatri...can dream about the moon...touch it and get it...against all odds!!!

That's all for now...perhaps I will write more later...as and when I get time...
