Hi guys.. As promised here is Part 2 of the story. I promise the following chapters will be more positive, but I just had to have Amaya give a little girl power to Mantu ( I'm getting tired of her puppy dog face and her constant prayers lol)
As always PLEASE comment with your reviews and let me know what you think.
I'll make sure to update it regularly!
This chapter turned out a little longer than I intended but I jus couldn't bring myself to edit anything out :).
Title : Who do you trust when trust is all you have.
When Mantu woke up in the morning, he felt confident. For the first time in weeks, he felt like he knew what to do. Like he knew how to control the situation in front of him.
He hurried to the haveli in time for lunch, and looked around for the one person who happened to be absent from the table.
" Mantu come sit" Sneha motioned to him. As he took his seat, he didn't fail to notice the ugly looks that Gajanand Choubey and Rudra gave him. On any other day, it would have irked him. But he didn't care today, not when he was going to make things right.
" Mantu I almost forgot" Sneha told him as she sat down at the table, " Can you go help Amaya after lunch? She finished eating early and started working on the flower decorations outside. Today is the sangeet, you remember right?"
Mantu's heart soared. This was the opportunity he needed. "Of course Aunty" he managed to say through a mouthful of food. Mantu set the world record for finishing a meal that day, scarfing down his food so fast the rest of the family members sat and watched in amazement.
Just five minutes later he was running outside, fixing his hair and trying to straighten his shirt at the same time. His heart was beating right out of his chest, but he felt more excited, and more confident than he had ever felt in his life.
She was outside the house, supervising the men who were tying long garlands of marigolds on the front of the house. From afar, he admired how beautiful she was. Her long black hair blew slightly in the morning breeze, her dark green kurta bringing out her pale skin and dark eyes.
He only became aware of his surroundings when Amaya herself turned and began approaching the door of the house, with a long garland of flowers in her hand. She stopped when she saw him, and their eyes met across the courtyard.
His face lit into a smile. But she remained expressionless, breaking off the stare and continuing to approach the door where he was standing. She stood right next to him and began working on attaching the flowers around the door frame, her hands working mechanically, her face without expression.
His confidence wavered, and his smile faltered. Something felt different. But he gathered up his courage, and turned to speak to her.
" Amaya.." he began. Her hands paused for a minute, then continued arranging the flowers, as if nothing had happened.
"Amaya... I have to tell you something" Mantu said nervously, with a shy smile on his face.
" What Mantu" she replied in a brisk tone, as if he was one of the workers coming to ask her a question.
" She's just angry" Mantu thought to himself, " But if I don't say it now, I never will"
" Amaya, I'm so sorry about what I said last night. I realize that this is a little late, after all that has happened these past few weeks.. but Amaya I love you. I love you so much that it hurts me to think of ever spending a day without you.
I love you so much that I haven't slept, or eaten for all this time, all I keep thinking off is you. You've done something to me Amaya, you've made
me into a crazy Romeo, someone who climbs balconies in the middle of the night in order to see the person he loves. And you know what.. Yes I'm crazy, but I would do it all again, just for you Amaya. I know that you love me too, you said it yourself yesterday.
Can we please put everything behind us and move foreword. Towards a future where we are together, forever and always?"
Mantu waited with bated breath. He had done it. It had taken so much of him, but he had done it. Now all that was remaining was for Amaya to accept
All that she had to do was give him one look, one smile, that indicated her forgiveness, her acceptance of his feelings.
He looked at her anxiously, waiting for some sign of a smile on her face. He heard her draw in a long breath. She turned to face him, but there was no smile on her face.
His heart sank almost instantaneously.
She looked him straight in the eyes, her own eyes drawn with pain, her mouth trembling slightly as if she were to break into sobs. But her clenched fists told Mantu that she wasn't going to hug him any time soon.
"Really?" she asked, looking into his eyes with a slightly sarcastic expression.
" So you say you love me... well then I have a question for you... Mantu, is your love like your trust in me?"
" That was her question?" Mantu thought, the smile returning to his face
" Of course it is Amaya!" he replied enthusiastically.
" So you mean to say" she shot back at him " That your love is just as weak, just as fragile, as your faith in me. You love me just as much as you understand me, as you believe in me, right?"
" Then you know what.. that's OK Mantu.. I don't need your love" she replied coldly, turning around and continuing her work.
Mantu couldn't believe what he was hearing. He turned her around again
" What are you talking about?" he shouted in frustration
" I admit it, I've been an idiot- I should never have taken that oath, that stopped me from confessing my feelings. But what about you Mantu? What excuse do you have to justify your behavior?"
" You lost faith in me so easily, when I believed in you more than I believed in myself."
" You didn't for a minute consider that I actually did come to your pooja, I just got late because Nanaji made us all stay home.. But I did come, I ran behind your rickshaw, I screamed your name as loud as I could. And I felt so sorry for my stupidity but I thought, no Mantu will understand, I trust him, he won't give up on me so easily"
"But that's exactly what you did, didn't you.."
" And then you proceed to taunt me at every oppurtunity you get.. suppose I said yes right now,and in the future we got married. Suppose we have another misunderstanding. Is this what I'm supposed to expect? You just proceeding to taunt me and glare at me endlessly?"
"I was an idiot, and I admit that, and I apologize for that... but what about you.. You aren't sorry, you don't see yourself as having done ANYTHING wrong... you believe other people like Uma, but you don't believe me!"
" Amaya it isn't like that!" Mantu protested," It's just that we are so different. I mean its crazy to even think about it you and me.. I just couldn't bring myself to act on something that seemed so impossible!" he pleaded with her.
"But that's the problem Mantu" Amaya told him, a sad smile appearring on her face.
" You claim to love me, but you have no faith in your love for me"
" You claim to want to spend the rest of your life with me, but that very future seems an impossible thing to you, something you couldn't bring yourself to consider.. and why, because we come from different backgrounds?"
" I've realized my mistake now Amaya.. you have to believe me.. I get it now, I know that I love you and that nothing else matters.. I know that we can overcome all of our differences together!" Mantu pleaded with her
A few tears dripped down Amaya's cheeks.
" A few days ago Mantu.. I would have said yes without even thinking twice. You don't know how much I want to say yes now. But I just don't know anymore. I don't know what to believe. You say something, yet you do something else. You keep changing your mind Mantu and I can't keep up"
" I just can't say yes Mantu... I'm sorry" Amaya wiped away her tears, the cold indifference returning to her face.
" Maybe you were right. A city girl is just too beneath you." she flung the words at him carelessly, knowing that they hurt him, seeing him flinch.
Picking up the flowers, she went inside the house.
A paralyzing feeling coursed through Mantu's body as he stood frozen in front of the door. He felt a numb sensation, as if he could no longer feel any limb in his body.
And a thundering pain, ripped through his chest, making him lean against the door to stop himself for falling.
All the confidence, all the strength and the courage that he had from this morning was gone. The bright sunshine had turned to clouds. And with it a feeling Mantu dreaded : the feeling of helplessness. He didn't know what to do, he felt confused, feeling himself fall through an abyss of darkness, and trying to find a way out, to the light above that was Amaya and every future he had ever imagined with her.
He knew he couldn't give up now; but he didn't know how he could continue onwards after this rejection.
Unaware that his body was even moving, he suddenly found himself on his motorbike, headed home. When he got there Uma was eating lunch with Chiklu. A smile broke out on her face when she saw him.
" Mantu, how are you back so soon! Did you miss us too much? Now that you are back stay and eat with us. Look I made your favorite desert!"
"Mantu...Mantu?" Uma rose from her seat, seeing Mantu in his dazed state of mind.
"Mantu!" she said louder, shaking his shoulders " What happened... is something wrong?"
" Amaya.." he said quietly, staring off into the distance.
" That witch.. Mantu I told you not to go to her house didn't I? She hurt you again didn't she. She's probably insulted you a thousand times by now, and you just sit there and let it happen. I'm telling you Mantu, let me come with you. She's insane, do you hear me. Anybody who takes such crazy oaths like the one she took about not confessing her love or whatever, those people just aren't in their right state of mind ok! I'm telling you, if it weren't for you stopping me I would have gone and given her two tight slaps by now."
" Uma you've got it all wron.." And then he stopped abruptly, slowly rising from the ground and staring at Uma as she prepared his lunch, as if he was seeing her for the first time.
" I always want the best for you Mantu, I never understand why you don't listen. " Uma continued.
" Uma..." Mantu called out.
" Yes Mantu?" Uma turned around with a smile on her face, happy that Mantu was reaching out to her again. But then she saw the expression with which he stared at her, an expression of disbelief.
" Uma.. how do you know Amaya took an oath?" Mantu asked.
The plate came crashing from Uma's hands.
Precap : Uma raises her hand to slap Amaya, but is stopped by Mantu, while Amaya stares in shock.
