Actually, I don't think Lakshya's character has been butchered much. It is Ragini's character that has been completely changed.
Lakshya was always shown as being impulsive, slightly immature, and not the brightest spark around, even though he was fundamentally a good person. His rash and impulsive decision to marry Ragini, was triggered by his anger at Swara and probably not having the strength of mind/ perspective to think things through more.
And now, he is obviously hurting, still unable to forget Swara, wanting to hate her, and jealous despite himself, that she seems to have married his own cousin. In such a time of emotional upheaval, it is not too surprising that Lakshya would lash out harshly at Swara.
Of course all this just makes Sanskaar--Swara extremely likely as a pair, since Sanskaar will be supporting her like a rock through this. But just for that reason, it does not mean that CVs have fundamentally changed Lakshya's character--they actually haven't, IMO.
