to me, what makes a masala movie even more chatpat and masaledaar is a macho hero capable of conquering any enemy and crossing ANY hurdle!

don't you think JKR would have applied the same principles to her HP series.. she probably wanted harry to walk away with all the credit in the end (for defeating voldy)... if dumby was to be alive till the end... he would probably be apportioned some of harry's fame and glory...

harry now has to work out everything on his own, go about it alone... though of course hermione and ron are with him... now, it's all about HIM!

i think it's a very shallow theory... but this is just to cheer up my little darlings especially DANIEL4EVER who seems to LOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVEEE harry... lol...

It's formula for all fantasy novels that have a 'Quest' theme. The mentor must always die so that the hero can become The Man and steps up and defeats the villain.
