Akshay Kumar is perhaps the only actor who has more than 100 films in his kitty. He loves to do quality work but not by compromising on quantity. His films often make money for the people involved right from the producers to distributors. He likes to make everyone happy. But there has to be a reason why he is so bankable at the box office and so we spoke to our trade analyst Akshaye Rathi to find out the secret.
The art of playing to the gallery!
Speaking about his films, Akshaye says, "All his films are typical masala entertainer. He hardly experiments. He knows what his audience likes to see him in and doesn't deviate from it. He sticks to the usual. He knows just too well how to play to the gallery". But doesn't Special Chabbis fall in the experimentation category for Akshay? Rathi replies, "Special Chabbis is a mainstream entertaining and engaging film. What I meant by no experimental film was you wouldn't see Akshay doing a Gangs Of Wasseypur ever."
Bit by bit
Akshay's films often earn well even though he hasn't touched the 200 crore mark yet. "Yes, Akshay may not have entered the 200 crore club but his films release at regular intervals and earn nearly 80-90 crore each. That's a steady stream of money that enters the industry after every 3-4 months. That makes him highly profitable for everyone." He also adds, "Despite not having a 200 crore film, he is right up there with the Khans who release one film a year and earn more than 200 crore." Akshaye even calls him the ATM machine of the industry!
So Akshay may not be breaking records with his films, but his films earn well, satisfying everyone! Isn't that what you want from a superstar-laced fil
