I agree Police should have better equipment, however purpose of AK-47 or AK-56 are for armed combat. I think it is over reaction to have Police carry these high end weapons.
What every Police should have is a secure fire arm which is capable to hold a standoff and bullet proof jacket as standard issue. Currently not every police man has access to pistols or revolvers unless it is an escalated incident and they have instructions to carry. See any police on road and all they have is a long stick and hope like shit that bad guys don't have guns.
In situations like 26/11 we need a rapid response unit which is well equipped to handle any situation. We already have units like that however how rapid they are is a question.
