My first post on this forum and it's about a social issue that is often swept under the carpet- the remains of patriarchy in today's generation.
I quite liked the first episode and what makes the show (for now), is Viplav's character. For the first time, I like the male protagonist more than the female one, lol. đ I usually tend to identify with the female protagonists, but here, I do not identify with Dhani one bit. She is too subservient and orthodox for my taste. I know she has suppressed all of her personality under that blanket of white, and I'm looking forward to seeing the shades of her persona peak out from beneath the white.
As for Viplav, it's quite a surprise that I find him very intriguing. He is a multifaceted guy, IMO. Carefree but chauvinistic, fun-loving but not free of thought and hedonist who wants to enjoy life to the maximum. He is someone who is divorced from the vagaries of life, due to his privileged upbringing and sheltered home environment. The archetypal spoilt brat of a rich family, Viplav doesn't seem to have questioned the norms of the society he lives in, rather he is unaffected by it 'cause he has not experienced their talons on a first hand basis. In that quality lies the source of Viplav's chauvinism and his attitude towards most things in life.
However, Dhani is someone who will manage to drag him out of his slumber and bring him out to face the harsh spotlight of society and battle the stares that inevitably arise when you do not fit the mould society has made for you.
His speech on wanting a 'pure and untouched ' girl was indeed revealing, 'cause it showed that despite his own faults, he has internalised the sexism that exists in his home and the wider world. But then, fate never gives you what you wants, rather it gives you what you needs. đ So, seems like Dhani will topple his worldview and manage to turn his values right on the head. Due to Dhani, Viplav will question himself and find that he actually never had all the answers. He will tear down the foundation of his regressive thoughts and replace them with a set of values that are freeing and bring him happiness.
How do you guys think Dhani and Viplav will manage to change each other?
