Chapter 1

"Saket stop it now. Let me get ready completely. You can shoot me then." Payal Gupta warned her brother who was recording her since she had started doing her make-up.

"No Jiji. I am going to shoot each and every moment of your wedding starting with your preparation for engagement", replied Saket as he positioned his camera to shoot Khushi helping Payal wear her jhumkas.

"Saket, don't disturb them now. Let them finish their get-up. The guests have already started pouring in." Garima Gupta said as she entered to check if her daughter was ready. It was a beautiful moment for her. She checked Payal one last time before dabbing her finger on the corner of her eye to put a small black tika on her daughter. "You look pretty, bitiya," she said and wiped a tear that escaped from her eyes.

In spite of being warned, Saket couldn't help but capture the emotional moment between her sister and mother.

"Ah, don't you think the atmosphere has turned a bit serious? How about a selfie before you drown the house with tears?" Saket said trying to lighten the moment. The giggles confirmed that all were ready and the siblings with their mother clicked a perfect Kodak moment.

"Di, don't you think Bhai is taking too long to get ready?"

"It is his engagement Chhotay."

"If he takes three hours to get ready for engagement, how much time will he take on his marriage day?"

"Look Sale Sahab has come", Shyam Jha again decided to interrupt another impending banter between his Rani Saheba and her Chhotay. Akash Singh Raizada came down the stairs in a cream sherwani.

"Akki! You look regal!" Anjali exclaimed with a broad smile.

"Finally, teen ghante ki mehnat rang layi. Anklet khush ho jayegi", Arnav said grinning. (Finally, three hours of hard work has brought colours. Anklet will be so happy.)

"Chale?" Akash asked with a smile.

"After you, Bhai."

Garima Gupta welcomed the Raizada family. She put the tika on Akash's forehead before ushering him in. Akash tried to look through the crowd in order to seek a glimpse of Payal.

"Anklet is not here, Bhai. Stop searching for her", Arnav whispered in his ears. Akash punched him with his elbow.

"Ouch! It hurts, Bhai."

"Serves you right", commented Anjali. "Why don't you bring a glass of juice for me till then?" Anjali ordered.

"Fine."

Akash was awestruck seeing his would-be fiance being brought by her sister. In the pink and white lehenga, she looked ethereal, thought Akash. She was made to sit beside Akash. She looked up to meet his eyes and smiled shyly. Their conversation with eyes was broken by Saket's voice as he captured the moment and shouted, "Woohoo! A perrrfect eye-lock!"

"Khushi, will you get the tray of sweets? I left it on the kitchen counter." A frantic Garima Gupta asked her daughter. She wanted everything to be perfect for her daughter's engagement. "Relax, Ma. I will get it," Khushi said trying to calm her.

Khushi walked briskly carrying the tray of sweets which were to be fed to Akash and Payal. Suddenly she bumped into someone who spilled the entire glass of juice on her maroon lehenga. "Can't you see and walk?" She said angrily as she tried to remove the stains of juice from her dress along with balancing the tray. "Excuse me. It was you who was walking without looking and bumped into me", she heard him say. Khushi looked into the person she had bumped into and was lost into a pair of molten caramel eyes for a few seconds.

"Khushi, what are you waiting for? The engagement is about to begin. Ma is waiting for you." Saket said as he dragged Khushi towards the podium. Khushi shot an angry glare at the person, turned and walked away.

Arnav Singh Raizada stood there with the emply glass in his hand and muttered under his breath, "Khushi Gupta. Finally I get to see you."

Akash smilingly slid the ring into Payal's finger and she reciprocated the same with a shy smile. Devyani Singh Raizada blessed the couple followed by Animesh and Arundhati Singh Raizada and Shashi and Garima Gupta. Khushi brought the tray forward and thrust a sweet into Akash's mouth. He took it from her and after a bite put it into Payal's mouth. The blush on Payal's face increased as the family cheered.

Khushi needed to change her dress immediately. The juice stain was sticky. She stopped on her tracks hearing Payal call her. "Khushi, wait. I want you to meet someone." Khushi turned only to find Payal standing with the owner of the same molten caramel eyes who had a lopsided smile adorning his face. "Khushi, this is Arnav, Akash's brother. He returned from London a week ago. He had come with the shagun but you were at college so you haven't met him." "Hi". She heard his husky voice. Khushi mouthed a "Hi" without a smile.

"Jiji, I need to change. Some stupid jerk spilled juice on my lehenga and didn't even bother to apologise. Excuse me," Khushi said eyeing Arnav and walked away.

Shashi Gupta watched his children watching the photographs clicked by Saket. They were commenting on how they looked, which picture was better clicked and the ones which weren't. He watched Payal laugh at a comment by Saket.

"A few more days and she will be gone." He heard his wife's voice from behind. "I can't believe till now that our Payal just got engaged." Her voice choked with tears. "She will be in Delhi only, near us." He said trying to cheer her up. She smiled.

Hello Diary,

The engagement is over. Jiji was so happy today. Ma is also satisfied that everything went fine.

Well, not everything. I met that JERK!!! He didn't even bother to say a sorry after spoiling my lehenga. Huh! Moreover, he was staring at me all through the ceremony with that stupid smirk on his face. The nerve of this man! IRRITATING JERK!

P.S. How much I dislike to admit he was looking handsome in the navy-blue bandhgala suit.

Khushi sighed as she closed her diary and kept it away. She looked at her sister sleeping peacefully beside her. She too lay down and closed her eyes. Sleep engulfed her soon.
