Thank you for your response to my previous three shot which was more from Amaya's perspective. Though a lot of you have asked me to continue it, I really didn't plan making it an SS or FF due to time constraints. Having said that though, the SBS segment where Mantu fights the goons for Amaya and also the stellar ManYa scenes we've been getting lately have prompted to me to write another OS. This one is more from Mantu's perspective. I have to warn you that this was written in a complete frenzy early morning while I was getting ready to get to work so it isn't well though out or well written by any stretch of imagination. Again, it's rather soon for any of this to happen in the show too. Anyways, this OS starts off after Mantu fights goons for Amaya, says whatever that dhaansu dialogue that he is planning to say and returns home wounded.
Do read and let me know how you like it/hate it!
Cheers,
Neet
ManYa OS - When Love Finds You
"What is wrong with you Mantu? Why the hell did you have to fight those goons and that too for that chipkali Amaya? Why are you so concerned about her?" Uma yelled at Mantu as she cleaned his wounds.
The downpour outside hadn't lessened one bit and Mantu almost felt like it was a reflection of the storm whirring inside him. "Uma! Will you keep quiet please! I saw those goons misbehaving with her and I couldn't just stand there and watch," Mantu replied, wishing Uma would just shut up so he could get some peace and quiet. Uma felt panicky. Mantu had never spoken to her like this before. She knew his anger, the extent of it and it's consequences. This was much more than anger. And the much more worried her.
"Why don't you understand Mantu? This is all her planning. Wasn't Rudra with her? Why didn't he do anything. I am telling you.. She is as sly as a fox. And all of this is her plan! That chipkali!" Uma ranted on.
"Shut up Uma! Just shut up!" Mantu yelled as he got up. "What nonsense are you talking about? And what is this plan plan plan that you are ranting about? Why would Amaya plan to have goons misbehave with her? Why would Amaya do something so ridiculous?"
"Why don't you see it Mantu? Why don't you understand? She wants to snatch you from me!" Uma blurted out, all the insecurities that had been eating her from within finally finding voice.
"What?!" Mantu asked, having no clue what Uma was talking about. "Yes!" Uma stated emphatically. Having voiced her insecurity, there was no turning back now, she realized. "She wants to snatch you from me. That's why she never returned the dress - the one you got for me and kept making excuses and even lied that the dry cleaner lost it. The truth is she had no intention of returning it. She wanted to keep it! Because she loves you!" Uma almost spat out in disgust. "That's also why she took that short cut for the Shravan Puja race! Because she thought she could win you from me. But God was with me that despite her winning the race, the two of you did not do the pooja together. You came to me," Uma said, the memory making her smile a dubious smile.
"What.. What are you saying Uma?" Mantu asked, unable to comprehend or believe what he'd just heard. "I'm telling you the truth Mantu! Amaya thinks she is in love with you.. And.. And.." Uma hesitated. "And?" Mantu urged her to go on. "And she thinks you love her too. But that's not true na Mantu? Tell me.. Tell me.." Uma said.
Mantu sat back on the charpayi feeling as though the earth had slipped from beneath his feet. Amaya loved him! Oh God! Amaya loved him! She had risked her life in that race.. For him.. For his love! "When you want something that means more to you than your own life Mantu, your life means nothing in front of it." Her words that day at the hospital whirred in his mind. Amaya.. Amaya loved him! And just like that, it felt as though the storm within him and outside had died down to be replaced by a gentle drizzle.
He was oblivious to whatever Uma was telling him or asking him as he got up from his charpayi. He had to hear it from Amaya before he could really believe it. He headed to the door, only to find Amaya at his doorstep.
"Mantu.. I know you are angry. But.. You were hurt.. And I had to make sure you were okay. Are you okay?" Amaya asked, her eyes filled with unshed tears as she looked at the bruises on Mantu's face. She raised her hand to gently caress the bruise under his eye.
"You?! How dare you come here? All of this is your plan, isn't it? Leave right now! I've told Mantu everything. How you are planning to snatch him from me! Now you have no say whatsoever! Mantu doesn't want to say your face ever! Just get out and never come back!" Uma yelled at Amaya.
Amaya looked at Mantu stunned. Uma had told him what? And surely he didn't believe whatever nonsense she'd told him. "Mantu.. I.." Amaya tried to clear things with Mantu but was stopped by Uma. "Did you not hear what I said? Mantu does not want to talk to you! He does not want to see your face! So just get out!" As Uma made a move to push Amaya away, Mantu stopped her. "Enough Uma! Enough! Stop!" "But Mantu.." Uma started to protest and Mantu simply held his hand up asking her to stop. All these years of knowing Mantu, Uma definitely knew that look in his eyes when he was dead serious about something and backed off.
Mantu turned to look at Amaya. She searched his eyes for a sign as to what he was thinking or feeling but all she could see in them was anger. He cast a glance at Uma before he grabbed Amaya's hand and said authoritatively, "come with me!" And Amaya followed him without question.
Uma yelled at him asking where he was going and why but neither Mantu not Amaya paid her any attention as they walked into the rain together, hand-in-hand.
"Mantu.. Listen.." Amaya tried to start a conversation as they turned away from the lane that led to his house. "Not now.. Just come with me," he said. They walked some more and the rain stopped. The dark clouds gave way to the golden, amber hues of the setting sun. Amaya realized that he was taking her towards the Ganga ghat. But why?
When they reached the Ganga ghat, Mantu took her to the boat that he regularly used to show tourists the famous Ganga aarti. He helped her onto the boat and led her to it's deck. "Mantu.. What is all this? Why have you brought me here?" Amaya asked as the boat took to the waters and the breathtaking view of the ghats getting ready for the night time aarti came into view. "Just keep quiet for sometime and let the aarti begin," he said. Soon the golden hues of the setting sun melted into the awaiting embrace of the sparkling Ganga. As if in a celebration of the moment, hundreds of temple bells chimed in unison. Devoted hearts and hands joined in prayer as lips chanted ancient hymns that filled the air with a vibration so pure and divine, it was almost magical. The lights of hundreds of thousands of diyas adorned the ghat in a warm, inviting glow and Amaya stood absolutely mesmerized by the experience.
A gentle hand on her shoulder snapped her out of the moment. She turned to look into Mantu's eyes. There was something so intense about the way he was looking at her, Amaya couldn't help the quickening of her heartbeat.
"I need to ask you something.. And I want you to tell me the honest truth.. Please.." Mantu said as his eyes scanned her face. It felt as though he was taking the biggest gamble of his life. What if all that Uma had said was just a by product of her over active imagination? What if Amaya just thought of him as a really good friend and nothing else? But he had to know either way. He wasn't good at playing games. He didn't think he could in love. And he was definitely in love. With this crazy, infuriating woman.
Amaya nodded her head slowly and Mantu took a step towards her. "What was your mannat for the Shravan Puja race?" He asked. He saw Amaya gasp and take a step back as he took another step towards her. "What was it that you wanted so bad that your own life was unimportant in front of it?" He asked taking yet another step towards her.
Amaya looked away and fixed her gaze on the Ganga Arti. The moment, the ambience was too pure, too divine to be tainted with a lie or an excuse. Her love, her mannat was too pure and divine to be tainted by a lie. She turned to him, looked him in his eye as she said, "you.. You, Mantu were my mannat. You are more important to me than my own life. Because.." She paused as she swallowed, "because I love you."
Mantu drew in a sharp breath. He felt like every prayer he had never really made for himself had been answered. His eyes teared up as he pulled Amaya into a tight hug. Amaya was shocked by his reaction but she hugged him back nevertheless. When he pulled back from her minutes later, he cupped her face in his hands and laughed in between the tears streaming out of his eyes.
"I.. I love you too Amaya! I love you too! I was so scared that you did not love me and that I wasn't good enough for you," Mantu said pouring his heart out to her.
Amaya felt her heart soar. Like she had just gotten wings! "No Mantu! You were, are and will always be the only one for me. I love you!" She hugged him tighter and the Ganga Aarti reaches it's crescendo behind them.
"You know I always thought my perfect confession of love would be on top of the Eiffel Tower.." Amaya said long moments later as they stood hand in hand, Amaya's head resting on his shoulder, watching silence return to the ghats post the Aarti. Mantu looked at her at that and she looked up to him, "but I've realized that I love Banaras much more than Paris now.. And this Ganga Aarti, this boat, this ambience - the Eiffel Tower is nothing compared to this moment that you've given me. I love you more than anything or anyone." Mantu smiled at her lovingly and Amaya added as an afterthought, "after Superman of course." Mantu quieted an eyebrow questioningly. "And mom.." Amaya continued, "and Rachu di.. And jazz.. And.." "Yeah sure.. I come at the very end of the list, don't I?" Mantu asked mock angrily. Amaya laughed at his cuteness before she looked at him with all the love in her heart, "no.. You are the very beginning.. Right next to my superman!" She said and Mantu pulled her into a tight hug and they stood there, lost to the world for long..
