it should be given a semi hit tag as the huge budget was recovered thanx to splendid overseas collection

Budget was 85cr and net collection is only 72cr with DS share was very poor only 36.7cr as a result distributor made losses unless fox sold the rights at lower price than their paid price

Fox recovered money from overseas market they made a heavy loss in the domestic market

KANK also made losses in india but did BB business in overseas but still got a semi hit tag

so MNIK should have given the same tag

Tag dosn't depend on budget. It depends on Indian Th price ONLY.

I hope you know that if a film's budget is 50 crores, it doesn't require 100 crore business (50 crore distributor share) to breakeven. Other revenues come into play lowering the breakeven amount, not including the overseas business.

MNIK was given the hit tag the same way ZNMD was given a hit tag. Huge budget and net total barely touched the budget. It's the other revenues which scraped the hit tag for these films.

and I'm talking about DS its 36cr

if the budget is 50cr the film needs to earn 85-90cr to recover all its money from domestic

...because its an SRK film and that's BOI 😆😳. That was the time when the whole Worldwide collections excuse become the line of defense. It was of course first introduced during KANK time but didn't had many takers probably because even fans weren't convinced and were looking at OSO for settling the debate. Post Ghajini and 3Idiots it became really impossible to defend (final nail on the coffin being Dabangg) and that's when everyone latched onto the worldwide collections narrative.

iirc the distribution price of MNIK was 90 Cr, its the same price for Talaash too and yet with lower budget and publicity expenses to moot, its not a hit at boi.
