Mehars has grown on me with every passing episode. And not without a reason. There are just too many things about her which set her apart from regular TV heroine. For once we have a women who is portrayed as modern, confident, sensible, successful, independent, practical and balanced. She doesnt start hyperventilating and turns into a fumbling, clueless, babbling creature everytime the hero is around. Nor is she some great, all sacrificing character who thinks its her responsibility to solve every mess without caring about her self- respect. Like refusing to interfere b/w Abeer- Nissar fight. She is a strong, balanced character who know how and when to stand up for herself. If it was a weaker character perhaps she would have either crumbled down completely or lashed back in retaliation at Abirs incessant provocations. But she knows how to maintain her dignity as well as composure. Also I love how she is concerned about Abir but not over dramatic about it. She doesnt start delivering moral lectures and virtue lessons to Abeer at the drop of a hat to reform him (like Ekta heroines). One thing I really appreciate about Mehar is her character consistency, which is a rare virtue in Indian TV. I mean she doesnt turn overly rude one day and overly emotional the next day. There is a well defined graph of her character and she rarely indulges in something that is in contrast with her character unless there is a very strong reason. Then of course her professional integrity is again admirable. She is able to not let her personal experiences influence her professional decisions. She is not afraid to take tough decisions if the job demands so...Like moving Abirs time slot. She never ever plays the victim card or wallows in self pity and it elevates her character so much more. Mehar is a very real and beautiful mix of strength, confidence, determination, poise and sensitivity.

No appreciation of Mehars character can be complete without appreciating Asmita. Mehar is a very tough character to portray. Why ? Because Mehar as a character has to very composed, restrained and in control of her emotions. Mehar can not give away too much of what she is feeling, neither vocally nor through her expressions. She cannot be over - dramatic or over - expressive. She can not scream or throw things if she is angry or break down into tears every time she is hurt or sad. Her character is confident and strong but at the same time subtle and layered. So it is extremely crucial to get the attitude right. Most of the time she reacts to situations that Abir creates. She has to maintain her poise and confidence in face of Abirs tactics. But Asmita cant over do it coz then Mehar would come across as completely cold and detached, and if she underplays it, Mehar would come across as too vulnerable and unsure of herself. So its a very fine balance that Asmita has to maintain. Most of the times Mehars hurt, anger or sadness are expressed just through her eyes. Very rarely does she have the liberty of giving into her emotions completely like in the washroom scene after the party. So it can be very tricky to play Mehar. And Asmita is doing a fantastic job so far. She has the right looks, attitude and nuances that Mehars character demands. its hard to believe that its her first show. Thanks to Asmitas portrayal, Mehar is neither rude or cold, nor weak or apologetic. She is real, strong and sensible and I love it.

Wonderful Post... But some credit we have to give it to cvs bcoz they are making abeer character so immature , childish that meher is looking much composed and admire person...and cvs need to have a genuine reason to support abeer childish behavior other wise its visible its abeer's badtameez dil and batmeez ego behind the divorce

Me too!!! 😃
I was so glad to see this post because every episode is inspiring huge amounts of Mehar-love in me. It's so nice to see a female lead for whom a sensible female viewer doesn't have to make excuses or cook up explanations about characterization just to be able to enjoy the show. Other shows constantly tell us that female leads are mature, independent, intelligent etc, while showing them being anything but those things, but with this show the best part is that they actually show those traits in Mehar, and let us see for ourselves, giving the intelligent viewer some credit (thank god).

I also loved how she refused to get in the middle of Abeer and Nissar's fight. She is not a character who enjoys drama for its own sake, nor does she take any pleasure in the fact that two "hot" guys are fighting over her. All she wants is to be able to live and let live peacefully. And we have seen that maturity in her since her college days when she refused to tattle about Abeer getting her drunk. That is real maturity. And on the other hand, what makes her so relatable is that she isn't flawless or invincible but is strong enough to deal with her problems in private, like when she withstood all of Abeer's nonsense with a poker face but broke down in the washroom.

And we see yet another side of her character in her enjoyment of Rati's crush on Nissar and her willingness to help. I love that she hasn't let the bitterness of her experience completely dampen her sense of romance or her sense of humour. The CVs and Asmita have really brought out the perfect balance of strength and vulnerability in this character!

Very well written analysis of Meher. Yes she comes across as a balanced lady with a layered characteristics. The way she maintains professionalism under extreme pressure is remarkable. Her silence throughout the provocation gives the emotional strength the lady possess. After Sakshi and Durga of EHT, I would say I am falling in love with Meher.

I am simply in love with Mehers role !!
It's something rare to watch and the way Asmita is portraying her role is applaudable .
She is perfect , neither over reactive nor insensible and I love the way she is carrying her her strong mask not parading emotions around hero .

She seems more real just like any strong girl in real life .

Great post! I completely agree with you.

Meher is indeed a refreshing change. There is this perfect balance about her character, without being icy cold/arrogant & overtly emotional. She definitely is a professional & manages to control herself even under pressure. She clearly loves Abeer & is there when he needs her but at the same time, she is not too overdramatic about situations. She gave him coffee (as a form of assurance) but left after that giving him space to deal with his emotions. She may scream at him regarding his immaturity or childishness but doesn't lecture him about it, or expect him to change for her. She is confident about herself & her emotions enough not to give in to Abeer when he begged her about not wanting the divorce one night before, but at the same time, displays vulnerability & sensitivity.

I often wonder about how she could have possibly fallen for Abeer but I think I get it now. No matter what the actual issue was behind their divorce, its obvious they didn't really know each other before marriage. They only saw each other as they were in their relationship together, & not as an individual. Add Abeer's childishness & impulsiveness to the break down of their marriage.

No doubt CVs have done a very good job as far as Mehar's characterization is concerned. As for Abeers immaturity and the way he is behaving, I agree CVs should have some solid reason behind that and most probably they have.

And I am even more glad to see your reply here. I have followed and loved your analysis in GHSP and PV forum😊
@Bold: This! So true. Its such a relief that we dont have to come up with multiple justifications or interpretations or non-existent motivations in order to justify lead characters illogical actions. That is why I am so happy that they have maintained Mehars character consistency so far. Every action and decision of Mehar so far has a clear and precise rationale behind it (barring one exception). So yes CVs have surprisingly given respect to viewers intelligence so far. And completely agree to your second point too. Many shows have promised no-nonsense, mature, independent women
but this is turning out to be one of the rare shows that deliver on its promise.
Mehar not interfering in Abeer Nisaar fight was a very sensible decision. I also liked the way she cleared the air with Nissar very next day in office. From Day 1 she has maintained that she does not want to be the reason of rift between Nissar and Abeer, and she has stuck to her stand. Again shows that she is not interested in unnecessary dram or petty games. So agree about her not rattling about Abeer in alcohol fiasco. And I loved that the decision was not about being mahaan or forgiving but simply a sensible precaution to avoid further trouble in college.
Her being a willing cupid to Nissar and Rati is cute. You should have seen her sense of humour when Abeer went all claustophobic in lift 😆. CVs and Asmita are indeed doing a very good job so far. Let see how long this lucky streak continues.

Thanks. Mehars internal strength certainly sets her apart. Sakshi and Durga were two of the strongest female characters in recent times thought the theme of the show was different.

Meher is by far my favorite Indian TV heroine ever, for the exact reasons you've listed and might I say you've articulated your thoughts very well!
