im here to talk about the trp trend!
long back this system was introduced to calculate how popular is one show!
then recently we all shifted to another system which promised to be a bit "MORE ACCURATE" than the previous one!
being an eco student i thought y dont i apply economic laws to this system!
applying statistics and economics i come with this analysis!! hope u all like and appreciate it!😃 (cos its my first ever analysis😆)
so, when it comes to measuring somethings in the macro level nothing can be accurate! in a country with more than a billion people it will be difficult to measure!
so out of the population of a country v pick sample households
these sample households are used to check the popularity and rate accordingly!
the channel's language is hindi so i think this would be the main reason for southern states of india to be deprived of contributing to the trps? (im not sure if the south indian states are also taken into calculation)
HERE R SOME REASONS Y THE TRP SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE!
1. Some of the samples may not cater to all the population's interest! so inturn one show has boom and the other has a depression in trp rates
2. they r GEC channels i.e. global channels if the foreign contribution is excluded then y r they called global channels? y do they air their shows globally if they exclude the foreign interest?
3. they say they watermark the tvs for calculating the trps now which means there is a lot of variation about the viewers choice!
4. a few channels dont even come under the trp system Eg: MTV, ChannelV, BINDASS, supportive offspring channels like RISHTEY, UTSAV, SONYPAL, BIGMAGIC,
this means when the population is watching the channels which dont have trp calculation then how can there be popularity ranking? i think this is one big QUESTION MARK till date
A FEW REMEDIES WHICH I HAVE IN MIND
1. firstly there can be an equal distribution in the watermarks of tv's across the country based on population density rather than on the language spoken or the geographical size- like huge population dense states of maharashtra, tamil nadu, rajasthan, gujarat, madhya pradesh, andhra pradesh, UP etc can be given a no. of watermarked tvs and states of the east and small states like karnataka, kerala kashmir etc can be given another no. of watermarked tv's this will give uniformity in claculating the population interest and the sample will be more accurate!
2. secondly the trps of the global viewers must be taken into acc otherwise there is no point in having foreign followers for that particular show! the cities can collect data and can forward to the head where they can sum the national+ foreign interest.
3.channels which air youth shows on prime time like MTV AND CHANNELV BINDASS etc should also be given a place in the trp count though they r not GEC'S they can be competitive!
4. i saw bizasia calculating trps for rishtey too?? i ask y calculate an offspring channel when another channel already exists?? that should be removed! these channels can just cater to the interest of public no ranking for them
5. HD tvs the present trend! but i saw barc calclating for HD tvs which made me happy but it wasnt added to the gross trps of the show!! it was collected as a channel not as a show!!! it would be better if it is added t the shows!
i dont know how much of my assumptions are ryt! just assuming these could be the happenings i came up with this post!
