If there is something I hate about a "Fan-fiction I am following"; it is when the updates are irregular. I never expected I would also follow suit. I am incredibly sorry and I promise to update atleast once a week. This is not exactly a chapter; a promo maybe.

He stood by the balcony of his house looking out at the setting sun. It had been almost 6 months since he had met his best friend. He had been so wound up in work that he hadn't even been able to meet him or his new family. Arjun had told him about the fiasco in his marriage including the readymade daughter he had now.

If there was something, he regretted to this day, it was the grave mistake he had done 7 years ago. At that point in time, his only motive had been "safety". But today with a seven-months daughter who warmly smiled up at him, he could only feel guilt thrice fold at what he had done. There was nothing he could do now, could he?

He took a deep breath in determination. He would tell his wife tonight and see if she would forgive him. Her decision would make this night either his last wedding anniversary or a beginning to a guilt free tomorrow.

Chapter 16

11 : 00 am

Everything was going to be alright, wasn't it?

She hoped.

She hoped against all odds.

She wasn't supposed to show emotions to her patients. Priya had taken that oath when she graduated.

Yet, she felt light-headed as she walked out of the emergency room.

"A 12-year-old boy abused by his stepfather."

What kind of a world was she living in?

The boy had had 29 gashes and had been fighting for his life when he was rushed-in.

Now he was stable; and surprisingly so she wasn't.

A slideshow of Arjun and Pooja laughing and playing together in the past months came to her and she felt more light headed that she had to steady herself against the railing in the hospital.

Arjun would never be like a common "stepfather", would he?

He hadn't, till now.

In fact, even she had been jealous at the amount of affection Pooja got from him.

Would it change? Would it change if he had a child to call his own? Would Pooja be sidelined?

A lone tear rolled down her cheek.

"Oh God!" she sighed audibly, frustrated at herself for doubting Arjun.

Brushing off her tear, she cursed her damn hormones.

01:00 pm

"Ashok, anju masam achuthu, inn neram un case a pathi maranthirukamatanga?" his friend asked taking yet another sip of his whisky.

"Marantha ena, marakalana ena," he answered smugly, eyeing his glass of whisky.

"Puriala."

"Arjun life la nimathiku enuma edam illa... enum konjam nal pogatum; sir ku nimithi pogurathu mathiri panuren paru."

"Ena pana pora?"

"Suma poruthu irunthu paru."

"Overa scene a podatha, readers konthalichuruvanga!"

"Ela ambalaiyum onu thaan da. Avanuku ready made a oru kolantha kadachirukila? Antha kolanthai oda unmai ana appa yarunu enaku theriyumnu sonna."

"Blackmail a?"

"Apdiyum vechukilam..."

"Dai, ana avain romba easy trace panuranai da."

"Ipo naan Commissioner oda marumagan."

"Atha avara solla sollu."

"Yei..."

"Seri. Seri. Apo Arjunku kandam start aiyuducha?"

"Without doubt."

A cat meowed in the background as ice clinked inside the glass of whiskey.

"Ein ivalo late u?" asked Priya as she got into the car.

Arjun had that "I'm not smiling and I'm not aware of you" smile as he started driving away while Pooja from the backside was smiling rather profoundly.

"Ena thillu mullu panitu vanthirukeinga rendu perum?"

Both of them still maintained their silence.

"Ena? Ein kita pesa mateingala rendu perum?"

The only response she got was Arjun raising the volume yet another point higher biting back his laughter.

Ok! Both of them were having some private joke. Just what was it?

She turned from Arjun then to Pooja and then to Arjun.

Both of them were clearly enjoying teasing her up.

She was about to say something when she saw that silent conversation between them where their eyes met through the front view-mirror.

That smile at their private joke!

That bond!

Oh how stupid was she to doubt Arjun even for that one minute!

She had sulked all the way back and still they wouldn't tell her!!!

The nerve of them!

She put on her compact with so much ferocity that she knew she would have to reapply her makeup.

Just what was up with these two?!

She put down her eyeliner as Arjun entered the room all dressed up and ready.

Light blue did look good on him.

Ah yes! Those two buttons were left open...just for her to close them.

She turned to him and took a step towards him as he did.

Their eyes scanned the others before she clutched the collar of his shirt and pulled him to her as her lips stayed mere inches from his.

"Ena sir? Secret a? Ein kita solla matenga?" she asked her voice soft and seductive; her peppermint breath on his lips. She thought she heard him swallow. She smirked at the knowledge that she still had that effect on him.

Sensing that he was leaning forward to kiss her, she pushed him back and said in a huffed voice, "Unga secret a nengalai vechu konga. Engalukum secret iruku."

Throwing her hair back dramatically, she started to walk out of the door to Pooja's room when she felt a tug; undoubtedly her husband's hands and without caution a smile bloomed in her face.

Really not liking the recent episodes of KMKV.

Hoping all becomes right...btw I didn't watch today's episode. So, If everything has been sorted out I don't know yet.
