Hi Abhay, nice post. once again u gave us a different point to ponder. I've read reviews of this book n Mr. Rushdie has been quoted for this work of his in different articles particularly in regard to MUZ. It is really very difficult task to understand AKBAR n fix him in a particular mould as he had so many shades n more over he displays quite contradictory qualities him self. It is easy to understand a straight forward person like MP. That's why may be the present generation youngsters r admiring MP more. Because of the complexity of his nature people r really curious to know the relation between AKBAR n MUZ. Their story enthralls us, fascinates us n lures us to dig deep n find everything about them. Because of his multi dimensional personality we admire MUZ more as she was really able to stand beside him as MEH n make him c her POV. She herself is an enigmatic lady who really was able to catch his eye n make her mark on his mind n heart.👏 I really salute this great lady.

Welcome Harshu.!
The author has made up an image of this ideal wife keeping in view his readings. His interview is something which tells us about his thoughts on her.

Thanks for the excerpt. A very unique take. Salmon Rushdie is talented, the problem is he is too intelligent for his own sake. His writing is very dense. It is hard to follow sometimes. But, interesting thoughts he has.

Hi all..

Made a post about a novel - The Enchantress of Florence, of 2008, which reaches further back in history. The novel, which the author describes as his most researched, moves with astonishing speed and energy from the court of Emperor Akbar to Renaissance Florence in Europe, journeying through various destinations on the way.

The author pits East against West, explores assimilation and identity, and invites us to think about the power of storytelling and its role in defeating obscurantism and intolerance.

The book also talks about his wife - Jodha, whom the author describes as an ideal consort, with excellent qualities no other woman can possess. The author has tried his best to keep the readers engaged till the end about the "identity" of this lady. Sometimes she is kept in his dreams and sometimes she is a real figure who is loved by Akbar but disliked by his other wives. In the middle he clears that the wife of Akbar was Mariam-Uz-Zamani, who was Hira Kunwari of Amer..

Till the end, the author keeps us engaged and we do not know when she is present in dreams and when she comes out as a reality. I found the interview of the author more interesting to read as that was something history.

Many excerpts are present in the post itself with an interview of the author...

I have posted a summary on the Forum Sticky also, with some excerpts from that novel..
