What according to you is the role of an anchor? An anchor's job is to bead everything together. I've got to make sure that the audience is always entertained and anxious. However, talking too much is a big no-no. You started out with anchoring Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and now you've shifted to Voice of India. Have you worked to bring any differ- ence in your style? Somewhat. Earlier, I was a little appre- hensive of the judges. Also, there was a wall of formality between me and the contestants. I'm more relaxed on Voice of India. Do you think having a singer as an anchor really helps? Of course! Espe- cially if it's a musi- cal talent show. When I praise a contestant, I know what I'm talking about. How can a non-singer anchor understand the fin- er nuances of music? Despite all this, VOI's TRPs remain low.. Well, if the public likes the frivolity and garish drama of the other shows, then so be it. I've been told that most shows record the music later.. apparently even the con- testants' voices are dubbed at times. Our job at VOI is to find a true playback singer.. period. What do you think of Indian Idol 3 and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007? The lesser said about Indian Idol 3, the better. The top two contestants this season are rank amateurs. Sa Re Ga Ma.. is better. Amanat, Raja and Poon- am are good. But Abhilasha, Harshad and Mohamad Irfan are better. The Sa Re Ga Ma Pa group seems to be well- versed in only sufi music, while our lot is more versatile. And that's what counts in the film industry . Isn't the audience responsible for bringing bad singers to the fore? What can the audience do if you give them only bad choices? But yes, region- al voting does irritate me. How about the judges' disagreements on the show? Look, they are human and if they feel something is going wrong, they will voice their grievances. True, they do get a little loud but that's only because all our judges have a certain comfort level with each other. But a lot of the catfights in the other shows seem instigated. How can they quarrel over sur and style? At the end of the day, is it important for the VOI contestants to look good? We don't scrutinise our contestants' appearance. They just have to look pre- sentable. What songs do you listen to when you are free? God, I'm singing all the time, so when I have any time off, music is the last thing on my mind. Name a yester-year singer who is your inspiration.. Kishore Kumar and Pandit Madan Mohan. What kind of songs turn you off? Songs like Mard tange wallah. Basically, the period after Kishore Da's demise was the low point in Indian music. Songs featured on Govinda and Neelam.. ugh! Which music do you love shaking a leg to? Hip Hop. Your best song sung till date? Suno suno na.

"Talking too much is a big no-no."
It just cracks me up!! 😆 I keep imagining an anchor chatting away on the show with the camera on him, while everyone else is looking desperately bored 😛
Shaan is a great person 😳 TFS!

Shaan you might have forgotten by now due to your short memory but you were a part of SRGMP earlier, and your present director used to direct that show. You were the face infront of the camera and your godfather director Gajendra Singh was the man behind the camera.

Where were you when the mentors fought like dogs the last season, which was scripted by none other than GS. Where were you when the drama between Abhijeet, Alka, and Adesh unfolded in your show and Alka made a staged exit to attend her shows in the US along with Kumar Sanu. Now she is back again in the show, and you had a story behind her return too. Oh! I forgot, those do not fall under he category of any drama.

What about the Abhash love story thats cooking in your show. What about the love story of Harshit? So, how is your show different.

You also claim that the other shows are dubbed. I believe you were the host and GS was the director when you all had three grand finale's where the singers were just lip-syncing.

On top of that your show does not have any rules or format. You bend rules at your own will to bring back a popular singer in the name of wildcard. And you have the audacity to criticise other shows which are much cleaner.

Please remember when you point one finger at someone, at the same time three fingers are pointing at you.

So the bottom line is: You lost all the respect that I had for you. So you can just go to hell with your dumb opinions.

First off, every person is entitled to his own opinion but please be polite while expressing your views. There is no harm if Shaan thinks his show has the best talent. That's his opinion and we should definitely respect it. Do present counter argument people but dont wish ill of people while you're doing so..

Anyhow.. coming back to the article. Thanxx anishma for always posting these great article, hun! I do agree with Shaan to certain extent. And I am glad to see that he thinks highly of Irfan as well. He's a successful playback singer, so he definitely knows what he is talking about. However, dramas are happening in each and every musical show these days. Be it SRGMP, II3 or SVOI. I simply detest the approach of compromising the quality of a show by cheap tactics in the name of TRPs. I hope such a trend disappears soon.

Cheers,
Sana~

There is a big difference between opinion and double standards.

Just remember the dog fight, drama, and saas bahu episodes of C2005 where Shaan and GS were the main persons in charge. Fight between Adesh, HR, and ID. Walk out drama by the contestants led by Adesh, and then the fight between Abhijit and Bappi Lahiri during Lil Champs. That Abhijit episode could give the slum fights an inferiority complex. And all these happened when Shaan and GS was in full control of the show. And still Shaan has the audacity to say negative things about other shows.

There were love stories on C2005 when Shaan and GS were in power and there is a cooked love story this time too, so does VOI. So what's the difference.

But atleast we did not see dogfights between judges, mentor quitting and coming back, drama's like mentors talking to each other after 2 years, in the so called other shows. And that is why the other show is much cleaner, and Shaan dare not critisize it. He should take a good look at the mirror before opening his mouth again.

I don't blame him though. We understand his frustration. Afterall he left the Number 1 ranking show to join the 39th ranking show. Blood will surely boil. 😆

People those who stay in glass houses.....................
