It is time to reflect over Qazi's popularity among the India public, particularly when he is close to winning the competition.
Let us remember that if Qazi is in Gurukul today, it is only because of public support and public vote. Qazi never ever faced the contestant vote and he was saved only once each by the faculty and the jury. Again and again and again, Qazi was supported by the public. This is well-known.
The question, therefore, boils down to: WHY DO THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE QAZI SO MUCH? Let us first eliminate supurious (i.e. false) explanations. Qazi has not won because he is a Muslim or a Kashmiri. Qazi has also not won because [ii] he is very handsome. Again, Qazi has not won because [iii] he is a great singer. Anyone trying to explain Qazi's success with public in terms of the above three factors is under great delusion.
Then, how to explain Qazi's popularity? I offer my views for what they are worth. Firstly, Qazi is strikingly different in appearance, and, on the whole, attractive and smart. Secondly, his presence and performance on the stage is confident, un-selfconscious and graceful. Thirdly, although his voice is not great and he is not trained, he is able to sing well . More importantly, he has managed to modulate his voice and improve his singing over time. Fourthly, Qazi is honest, clean-hearted and God-fearing. Lastly, Qazi's initial success with the public had a snowballing effect. Success led to more success and he increasingly cornered more and more public sympathy and support. In turn, this made Qazi more responsible and hardworking.
Not one, but a combination of all these factors have made Qazi Tauqeer so very popular with the Indian and South Asain public.
Am I right friends?
