when he said "now I know that the Indian public is with me"
he wasn't being full of himself. I mean, what's the most that he said?
If you think about it, all he was really doing was thanking the public. It's just that the words he chose made people think otherwise. Isn't it pressurizing being up there, having to thank millions of people and choosing the right words to do so? If a mistake happened in what he said, and he didn't even realize it at first, why put that against him?
Another thing, he was just about to sing..! He would be concentrating more on his song than anything else, so his mind was probably racing with a million thoughts to even put his words together and then realize his mistake afterward.
That's what I think..
And if that one statement affects his votes, then come on! Do people really vote based upon what the person says, not their singing?
I think that people are making a mountain out of a molehill here..
