Chapter 1
When I first saw her, I couldn't stop looking. Not because I had fallen in love with her or anything, but because she had a period stain on her pants. I knew how embarrassing it must have been for her, yet I couldn't help it - I almost burst out laughing.
Call me a jerk - call me whatever you want, but on the first day of college, seeing something like that, it was like I couldn't control myself.
Nobody else seemed to notice, and I had enough heart to go and tell her so that she wouldn't get too embarrassed.
"Hi," I said, walking up to her. "I just wanted to let you know that -"
"Sorry, I'm not giving you my number," she said, in an obnoxious way.
"What?" I asked - how could she even assume that I wanted her number. "No you misunderstood... I was actually here to tell you that -"
"Please leave me alone. I don't want to go on a date with you," she said.
"Look... whoever you are, I have no intention of -" I started again, but was interrupted once more by her.
"I said leave me alone!" she said, sounding irritated. "I have a boyfriend."
I stopped in my tracks and folded my arms.
"Fine," I then said, deciding that she deserved to be embarrassed.
Then I started to snicker, and she stopped in her tracks too, before she turned around to glare at me.
"What are you laughing at?" she snapped.
"Hey Parth!" I said loudly, noticing my best friend from high school, walking towards me through the crowd. "Look at what's on this girl's pants!"
Parth looked down and his eyes widened... then some girls who were passing by looked too and started to laugh and point.
I saw her eyes fill up with tears, and she ran away from the scene. I felt bad, but I firmly believed that she deserved it. I tried to be nice to her, but she didn't listen to me - my ego got hurt, what could I do?
"That was mean Randhir," Parth said, approaching me.
"I tried to tell her," I said defensively. "But she thought I was hitting on her... can you believe it? As if."
I nearly snorted with laughter at the thought.
I had no clue, that not long from now, this girl would be my world, that living without her would not be an option for me. I had no idea, that the same blood I laughed at, I would be dying to save.
That was the day I saw Sanyukta Agarwal for the first time.
