Chapter 40: LAST CHAPTER

He was silent for a few moments, and my heart started to beat faster with anticipation. He looked at me intensely, before he hugged me tightly, his face nuzzling my neck.

"Really?" he asked.

"Yes," I confirmed, and he kissed my neck softly, as my hands caressed his back.

I smiled, happy that he was happy with the new addition to our family.

"I'm... I'm so happy," he murmured.

"So am I," I whispered in response. "I'm so happy that we're going to have a child Randhir... so happy that we're going to start our own family."

"I love you," he said into my neck.

"I love you too," I whispered happily, my eyes filling with tears. "You're going to be an amazing father."

He pulled away from me and kissed my forehead, before bringing my head to his chest.

"I don't know what to say Sanyukta," he said to me honestly, "I just love you a lot."

"And I will always love you," I whispered, just as honestly, as my tears fell onto his shirt.

He stroked my hair, and for a few moments, we were silent, just feeling each other.

As they said, silence spoke louder than words.

"Don't come to work anymore," he said after a few moments.

"Randhir - I can!" I responded softly, breaking our hug. "I'll be fine."

"No Sanyukta, please. I don't want any risks this time," Randhir whispered to me, and I could hear the pain in his voice - my miscarriage had affected him a lot, perhaps a lot more than it affected me.

I took his hands in mine before squeezing them.

"I know you don't want anything to happen to me or our child," I said to him softly. "But Randhir, working won't do anything."

"Please Sanyukta," he begged, and his eyes filled with tears. "You know I have nothing against you working - I just... I just don't want anything to happen this time."

"Randhir," I whispered, "Don't wor-"

"Please," he interrupted. "I'll come home early everyday to look after you... you just rest, and I'll cook. I'll clean. I'll do everything!"

I smiled at him.

"Okay fine," I said to him softly and stood on my tiptoes, raising my hands to hold on to his shoulders, before pecking him on the lips. "If you insist."

"I'm staying away from you," he then said.

"What?" I asked, feeling myself get annoyed. "Why?"

"I don't want anything to happen to the baby," he responded, and I sighed - he was cute sometimes, but this overprotective nature was sometimes very irrational.

"Randhir, you hugging me, kissing me, even making love to me, won't harm our child," I told him. "You know all of this - why are you saying all that?"

"I just don't want to take any risks this time," he murmured. "We won't have sex."

"Randhir, sex won't hurt our child!" I insisted.

"I know, but still... it's too much working out for you, I want you to rest," he said.

"Oh my goodness," I said, frustrated, as my eyes filled with tears. "Fine. I don't want to have sex with you anyways."

Then I turned around and walked to our bedroom before slamming the door shut and sitting on the bed. I took the box of tissues from our bedside table and started to sob.

Randhir then entered and sat on the bed next to me, but I refused to look at him. He wrapped an arm around me before bringing my head down to his shoulder. I rested it there and I cried.

"You're so frustrating," I snapped. "I hate you."

"I love you," he replied softly, and kissed the top of my head.

"What if I want to make love to you?" I sobbed. "You know how my hormones get."

"Fine, we'll make love," he replied. "But, very gently. You lie still, I'll do all the work. Only if you agree to that."

I glanced up at him and smiled through my tears, before I removed my head from his shoulder and pulled myself on his lap.

"Whoa, Sanyukta, I told you I'm -" he started, but I had already smacked my lips against his hard and pushed him down on the bed.

He slowly turned me over so that I was lying down, as he continued to kiss me, and he slowly stroked my cheek.

"I'm just kissing you," I murmured softly.

"And I'm just loving you," he responded against my lips. "You just have to promise me, that you'll be careful."

"I promise," I whispered to him.

Then he lay down beside me on the bed, and I rested my head on his chest, as he held me against him.

"I don't know what I'd do without you," he muttered, and I knew that he was thinking back to his previous mistakes.

"You don't need to know. I'm with you, and I won't leave you," I told him firmly.

"You were so patient with me," he replied softly. "You were kind to me."

"I love you," I replied to him, "That's why."

"I know, you love me a lot. Thank you... thank you for waiting for me, and standing by me through times when I wanted to give up on myself," he said sincerely.

"Randhir, you don't need to thank me," I told him and hugged him more tightly. "I love you, and I'll do anything for you - I would wait a whole lifetime for you, if that's what it takes."

"I know," he responded. "In the middle, I may have started to forget why I fell in love with you, but through the last few months, you taught me. You showed me why. I learned to love you again. Openly."

"You always loved me," I told him softly, as I rubbed circles on his chest. "You just needed time to show me."

"I did always love you," he admitted. "I was just losing my way, but you brought me back."

"That's what I'm here for... if you ever stray off the path, I'll walk the wrong direction with you, until you come back," I said, tears filling my eyes.

"I love you," he then said, "I love you so much, and I promise you, no matter what happens, I won't leave you, and I won't hurt you if I can help it."

"I love you too - and I promise you the same," I vowed. "Randhir, we have to make it work. Marriage isn't something you run away from when things don't go your way."

He rubbed my back and kissed my hair, as we held each other in silence.

It had been a rollercoaster ride, but even rollercoasters were thrilling at some points... our marriage had been on the verge of breaking, only for it to be stronger than ever. Now, our marriage was untouchable. I knew there was nothing that would split me and Randhir up now.

As they said, you go through hardship, to learn and become better. Just like that, Randhir and my marriage started to weaken, so we could learn to love again in order to unite stronger than we ever had. No matter what difficulties arose, we would now conquer each and everything together.

And now I knew that we were inseparable forevermore.
