Conflicting Motives

I read a member commenting how he/she wanted Dilwale to do better than BM despite disliking SRK coz it would help VD in maintaining his edge. That got me thinking. How many times is our behaviour driven by conflicting or ulterior motives. Have you ever wished a movie to do well even though it has someone absolutely dont like? Or have you ever wished your favs movie to not do too well maybe because you dont like the co-actor/director and dont want them to work again?
I like Hrithik, but didnt want his superhero movies to do too well, so that I could see him in normal roles. Similarly I have soft corner for SLB, but I am not sure about wanting BM to become huge hit just because I dread DeepVeers PR overdrive if it happens. Do you guys also have such dilemmas?

How does it benefit us if a movie does well or not?

I've never wanted any movie to perform badly. But I suppose it's human nature to want a movie of your fav actor or actress to do well. But like I said how does it benefit the viewers if the movie does well or not? It doesn't.

I want both Dilwale and BM to do well because both of them have my favourites. And that is mutually exclusive.
But I never wish for a movie to flop. If I don't care about the actors/actresses involved, I don't care about the movie. SIMPLE.

no one can influence my liking towards my fav ..i will always want their movies to do well and even if i dont like some things about a movie of theirs like in case of jthj , i hated srk/kat pairing and in case of jai ho, i dint like the casting, i will still pay to watch it... though i generally get a bad feeling about them beforehand... baki sab jaaye bhaad mein...dont care ..😆

Its easy to wish good for people that you have neutral feelings about - I find I always support a movie regardless of the actors / crew if the content is good. But its hard when people you like / dislike are concerned. It would be with a lot of effort that I would point out bad things about a movie / show of my fav. And its so easy to spot bad things about someone whom I dislike.
As far as I see its what is called passing a comment with ulterior motives.

But what you are suggesting here - wishing good for people whom you dislike / wishing ill for a project of your fav would be harder. Can't recall doing that ever but I guess its always with a fairly valid reason.
Ex - I wish SRK's masala sort of movies did not become so successful, so that he would do them over and over and distance himself from movies like sawdes / chak de india
