Radha's eyes widened in disbelief as the masked man barged towards her with a knife in his hand; ready to stab it into her stomach. She closed her eyes as this was the only thing she can do, expecting the knife to thrust through her stomach at any minute.
"Radha!!!!!!!"
Her heart raced as she identified Ld's scream and opened her eyes to find him stabbing the knife into the masked man's arm. He noticed the other masked man running towards him and tried to stop him with a punch.
Neha was aware of how difficult the situation has become, she grabbed the vase behind her and smacked it across Radha's head. Stealthily and cautiously, she escaped the Chaturvedi haveli as Radha lay on the floor unconscious.
LD was occupied with the fight when his eyes fell on his Radha lying on the floor unconscious. The color drained from his face and he felt as if the knife had hit his heart instead of the masked man's arm. He pushed the masked man away and moved his almost numbed legs toward Radha's direction.
"Radha! Radha wake up!!" He cradled her face between his palms as the pain reflected in his eyes.
Chameli entered the door with a grocery bag in her hand.
"Where were you?" LD chided her when he suddenly remembered Dadi ji and Dadi bua.
"I'm fine. Don't worry LD beta." She spoke as LD tried to lift her up.
"Go check on your Dadi ji inside."
LD carefully sat her down on the chair and moved towards Dadi ji's bedroom.
"Dadi ji!!" He yelled his name when he saw him lying on the ground. He lifted him up with difficulty and placed him on his bed. Dadi ji hinted to him with his eyes that he was ok.
LD paced back and forth outside the room as he waited for the doctor to check on Radha. He clenched his fist angrily as he thought about what had happened today. Who would dare hurt his family and Radha like this? He punched his fist into the wall angrily leaving scars on his knuckles.
The doctor exited out the room and LD rushed to hear what he had to say.
"Don't worry, thankfully the hit wasn't as bad. I bandaged her head and she's asleep know. She will be feeling a bit dizzy when she wakes up, so don't let her move a lot. She needs to rest today."
LD nodded his head trying to absorb every word the doctor was telling him.
"Get this medicine for her and give it to her when she wakes up." He handed the prescription slip to him.
"Thank you doctor." He eyed the prescription as the doctor left.
"Chameli" he called out and she came rushing to him.
"Go and get this medicine for Radha." He handed her the prescription and headed towards the bedroom to check on her.
He looked at her through the door as she lay there asleep. Her eyes closed and her chest rising and falling with each intake of air.
A tear almost escaped his eyes. He could have lost her today if he hadn't come down to check what was taking her so long. His Radha would have left him today. The thought sent a chill up his spine and made something turn in his stomach. He knew she had left him and exited out of his life a year ago, but he knew at least she was still alive even if she wasn't with him, he was sure that she was still alive and happy somewhere with her family.
He sat on the edge of the bed as his eyes stared at her sleeping like a princess.
He knew deep inside his love for her is still there and it will always be there no matter what happened. He cannot stop himself from loving her, for that would mean he would have to stop himself from breathing. Yes. Her love is his oxygen and whether he accepted it or not, the truth remains that he cannot live without it.
He lifted his hand and removed the strand of hair that covered her face and tucked it behind her ear. Slowly and hesitantly, he bent down and planted a tender kiss onto her forehead before he headed out the door.
Radha woke up holding her head as the sting of pain pierced through her head. The room looked like it was turning and she couldn't focus on anything. She tried to get up and was about to fall when a hand grabbed her shoulder. She looked up and identified him as LD.
"What are you doing? You need to rest." He spoke as he seated her onto the bed.
"Dadi ji and..."
"They are fine." He cut her when he noticed what she wanted to say.
She breathed a sigh of relief and tried to get up again.
"I told you, you need to rest. If you need anything then ask me. Why are you getting up?"
Radha looked at him and spoke shyly.
"Mu...mujhe washroom jana hai."
"Oh..." LD sensed the awkwardness.
He tried to get her to stand on her feet as he walked her to the washroom, his arm wrapped around her waist.
He waited for her outside the washroom and carefully walked her back to her bed and left the room.
After a couple of minutes, he returned with a tray of food in his hands. Radha stared at him.
"You need to eat so you can take your medicine." He spoke softly to her.
She tried to reach for the spoon, but LD had already grabbed it. He dipped the spoon into the plate of soup and held it in front her mouth. She stared through his eyes trying to decipher what they were saying. He turned his eyes awkwardly away from her as he continued to hold the spoon. She quietly ate the spoonfuls of soup he fed her.
"That's enough. I'm full."
He grabbed the napkin and tried to wipe her mouth and accidently brushed his thumb across her pink tender lips. Their eyes interlocked with each other as they both felt it.
At night LD kept tossing and churning on the mat. He kept thinking about what happened as his eyes kept looking over at Radha who was fast asleep. After an hour he also fell asleep.
"No! Please leave me!!! NO!!!"
LD woke up on Radha's screams. He jerked the blanket violently as he ran towards her bed. She was having a bad nightmare and he could guess she was dreaming about the masked men she encountered today.
He rested his chin on her head and didn't notice it when he also fell asleep beside her.
