"Sanyukta what happened to you?" Randhir asked her softly.
He noticed the way her lips were trembling. She held the sleeve of his shirt tightly, almost as if she was desperate.
"Please, let's go," she croaked, as tears fell from her eyes.
"Sanyukta don't go with him," Kaustuki said, sounding scared for her friend. "He's gonna leave you. I even helped you with your stupid ideas before... but not anymore!"
"Kaustuki please, please stop talking," Sanyukta begged.
"Fine," Kaustuki slurred, "But your diary... your diary knows I'm not lying."
"Lying? About what?" Randhir asked, starting to feel like something was wrong... something was very wrong.
"Nothing Randhir, she's drunk. She doesn't know what she's saying. Please let's go," she begged.
He wrapped his arm around her waist and nodded at Jiggy.
"Take care of her," he told Jiggy. "She seems very drunk."
"Yeah, I'm just about to take her home," Jiggy told Randhir. "I'm sorry you had to meet my girlfriend in this state."
"Girlfriend?" Randhir asked, sounding surprised.
"Yes, remember, I told you? I met Sanyukta through a friend? Kaustuki's the friend. She's actually my girlfriend, but I'm just used to saying friend," he explained.
Randhir smiled at him.
"Randhir," Sanyukta said, "Please... can we go now?"
"Sanyuuu," Kaustuki said again, "You did everything for him."
Randhir watched as Sanyukta's eyes widened and she tried to drag him away, but Kaustuki was speaking too fast.
"Remember Sanyu? Remember the things you did? He... he doesn't care... he hurt you. Used you. He used you... he had sex with you and then he left," she slurred.
Tears had already fallen from Sanyukta's eyes as Randhir watched her, feeling his confusion fade. So this was what Sanyukta was trying to avoid.
"You told Kaustuki?" he asked her, feeling himself get angry. "You told Kaustuki about what happened between us?"
She bit down on her lip and nodded.
"I told you not to tell anyone - you told me you wouldn't, but you told Kaustuki?" he asked her angrily.
"Randhir, I'm sorry," she said, sobbing, holding his arm tightly. "I promise my intention wasn't to break your promise."
He jerked his arm away from her grip and stormed away from her angrily. How could she even mention to anyone that they slept together? He hadn't told anyone... why would she? He didn't care if it was Kaustuki or if it was someone else. It hurt. It hurt that she didn't consider her word to him important.
When he felt the cool air of the night hit his face as soon as he left the nightclub, he felt his insides burn with guilt. He left Sanyukta in there alone, crying. He didn't like seeing her cry, he really didn't, but he felt really hurt that she hadn't kept his promise.
He allowed himself to cool down for a few minutes before entering the nightclub again. Randhir walked around the club, looking for her, but couldn't find her anywhere.
Where was she? He felt his heart start to beat faster out of fear. Was she okay?
After another few minutes of searching, he found her by the bar, downing what looked like vodka shots.
It looked like she was trying to get drunk.
"Silly girl," he muttered under his breath angrily.
Was getting drunk a solution to anything?
He started to approach her, but just before he reached her, a very good looking guy reached her first.
"Another shot for the lady," he said to the bartender.
She looked up at the guy and smiled widely.
"Thank you," she said, sounding tipsy. "You know... the man I came with left me here alone."
"He must be an idiot to leave a beauty like you here alone," he told her flirtatiously.
Randhir felt his insides start to boil - why was he flirting with Sanyukta? And why was Sanyukta even paying him any attention?
"He - he isn't the idiot," she told him, her eyes filling with tears as her hands shakily held on to her shot glass. "I'm the idiot. I told my best friend that I had sex with him."
She downed the shot and then wiped her tears with the back of her hand.
"But I was in a bad state," she told him. "I... I couldn't hide it."
The man placed his hand on her shoulder and rubbed it affectionately.
"I can help you forget about him," he told her with a smirk, "I promise, you will have so much fun that you will forget about him completely."
"How?" she asked him innocently, looking into his eyes.
Randhir felt his heart melt when he saw her innocently ask him that question - she was so innocent that she couldn't even see this guy's intentions.
"Come with me, I'll show you," he told her, and then stood up from the bar.
Sanyukta stood up too and was about to follow him when Randhir walked up to the duo and grabbed Sanyukta's wrist authoritatively.
"Sorry," Randhir told the man, "She's my date."
Sanyukta looked up at Randhir as he stared at the man with a serious expression on his face. The man just shrugged his shoulders and left. As soon as Randhir looked down into Sanyukta's eyes, he noticed her small smile.
"You came back for me," she said softly, and then she wrapped her arms around him, resting her head on his chest.
He stroked her hair softly.
"I'm sorry I left," he murmured.
"It's okay," she replied into his chest. "I missed you, but it's okay."
He kissed the top of her head before he could control himself, and he felt her melt into his embrace. Her eyes were closed.
"Do you want to go home?" he asked her.
"No," she said, with a happy sigh. "I want to finish our date first."
"Okay," he said, smiling and he broke the embrace.
She looked up into his eyes and smiled at him. Randhir could tell just by the way she was looking at him that she was more than tipsy.
"I thought you were gone forever," she admitted to him.
"Forever is too strong of a strong word," he pointed out. "You barely know what's going to happen in the next second, how can you say I'll be gone forever?"
"Then promise you won't leave forever?" she asked him, holding his hand tightly.
He took her other hand in his too and kissed her on the forehead softly.
"I promise I won't leave forever," he replied.
Then she wrapped her arms around him again and he held her tightly against him, feeling his heart melt.
He had already established that she was cute, that she was innocent, and was very beautiful. Today, he found out that he wouldn't leave forever too.
Randhir closed his own eyes as he felt her warm body against his. He still didn't know why he felt this way towards her, but whatever it was that he felt, he didn't want it to go away.
