Which need not have happened.This is what I guess separates Harki from the likes of Nandini.

Harki also may have experienced harsh treatment from her husband and MIL but she allowed herself to become like them where as Nandini doesn't allow herself to become like Harki.

That empathy for people who are suffering is what distinguishes Harki from Nandini

Harki let the circumstances take over her Nandini doesn't .

That's what differentiates losers from winners - Loser lets circumstances take over their life and winners don't let circumstances take over their life

We had a fine example of Anandi and Gauri too - the same bal vivah they underwent Gauri should have been happy that her wedding was declared null and void but she let that over whelm her life and screwed up her life Anandi did the best possible for herself in the circumstances she was in and made sure that circumstances didn't make her bitter or vengeful.

You can direct your energy to positive things or negative things.

Harki knows that the world is unkind. And she is dependent on her husband. Has no education, has never fended for herself, also does not know how. She knows that Akheraj will not think twice before killing her or maiming her or throwing her out of his life if he gets angry. Akheraj has no soft corner for any woman. He even told his daughter yesterday that I should have killed your mom for giving birth to a girl. And without any survival skills, what will she do, how will she survive. She is caught in the age-old man/woman imbalance. And pandering to her son and husband is her way of survival and primary goal in life. Since she is treated this way, she treats Nandini in the same way and will have no problem if her daughter is treated like this in her own in-laws home. It is the way of life for her.

But occasionally she lets softness for her daughter peep through.

Nandini's innate sense of right and wrong and her ignorance in the ways of the world makes her fearless. She feels she has nothing to lose. She sees herself spending her entire life doing exactly what she has been doing until now with people for whom she hardly feels anything.

But the genes she has of Shiv and Anandi do not allow her to ignore injustice. She is willing to sacrifice herself for people who are sympathetic to her and strives to make their lives better. She does not aspire to change her own life.

She does not yet know how unkind the world can be to women. In a way until now she has been totally sheltered from the outside world.

So true. She may not know who her parents are and she is growing in circumstances which are so different from her parents circumstances and yet she thinks and behaves like her parents😊

Intolerance to injustice and inability to see the oppression of the weak - This is one factor that sets her apart from the other women in that household.

where did nandini is compared 2 phulwa??phulwa was totally difft from nandini. she did play pranks on bad ppl in childhood but none were dangerous 2 harm any1 v.much. i only said that nandini will/can also hav heart break even if shes considered a s tough just like phulwa was tough but got heart break.
