@atominis : they play National Anthem in Angamaly Carnival Cinemas (Ernakulam) n i must say the experience was good ... first i was taken aback as the massage flashed across the screens requesting everybody to stand up for the National Anthem , but once it started , the mood completely changed ... i think it also helped in getting into the 'collective viewing' experience ... n also i have seen the audience taking extra care not to throw waste down on the hall too ...

If its mandatory then every multiplex will have to hold one marathi movie during prime time. If the movie is not good enough and do not gather enough audience then it means the multiplex will end up losing money which they might have been able to get from some other successful movie irrespective whether its hindi, marathi or english and they won't be able to change or pull off the movie either. Which means they will pass on the burden to the audience by increasing the ticket rates. With a rise in service tax and now this entertainment is going to be very very expensive in mumbai.
Not a good movie in my opinion.

Allowing GMOs while making all these ridiculous rules to apparently secure the kursi. I wonder if the Marathis will fall for it.

Is it even constitutional for a state government to order non government establishments and businesses how to run their business?
If this is only for multiplexes then it means they are loosing one screen and still have others for Hindi films. But I am still not sure about passing this kind if ruling against businesses. What happens if this doesn't work? No Maharashtarian can watch a Hindi film unless they prove they've watched one Marathi movie that month?

personal experience, they really keep absurd timings for regional movies, I understand the business perspective, but how many marathi movies are released anyway in a year?

100 at max and usually content is the winner at BO in case of these movies, they dont exactly have the star power and stuff (aware of swapnil and mugdha's popularity but..), there has to be some way to boost its appeal, it shouldnt hurt to give it a chance at prime time slots..I couldnt find one decent timeslot to watch mitwaa in theatre and ended up watching it online..

as for revenue loss for BW movies, there would be compensation by maybe better morning and afternoon show collection coz people will go to catch a good movie anyway in case of them at the available timeslots, so maybe the revenue loss would be there for BW, but not as much coz they are popular anyway..

@bold: true that
Though the scenario has improved recently, the timings are so odd that its often impossible to watch the movies in cinema unless someone is willing to forsake work/school/college
And so most people watch the movies online

Its a move worth trying if its going to improve the scope for regional cinema

the owners will keep the mandatory screening
but if, the released marathi film, fails to attract audience
then it'll be pulled out. its a fair decision imho.
but if released marathi film turns out good
then smaller budget plex targetted hindi films
will be affected minimally.

I completely agree with you. Keeping one marathi movie at prime time wont hurt. Marathi movies have started founding the audience. Evn i cudnt watch mitwaa due to office timings. I dont know why people see this move as bad. Its important to protect and promote your regional culture as well. And to the people talking abt tax benefit , this move is not abt income for such movies. Its also abt promoting. Trust me far more people would be able to watch it if the movie is played at prime.
