Chapter 13

Arjun raises his eyebrow as he sees the gun pointing at him. riya's breath quickens as she sees arjun standing in front of her, his upper body bare while his pants hung low on his hips. She lowers the gun and immediately turns around trying to hiding her blushing face. she said "so...sorry arjun sir. I thought it was someone else." She felt arjun advance towards her and catches her lower lip between her teeth and keeps her eyes shut. She seems to have forgotten to breath as she felt arjun's bare body against her clothed back. Arjun bent down and whispered in her ear "may I ask miss riya, what are you doing in my room?". hearing the tone of amusement in his eyes, riya's temper flares and she turns around quickly forgetting that he is near her. due to the sudden change, both of them lose their balance and they fall down arjun coming on top of riya. Riya's breath starts to quicken having him so close. Arjun's sees her eyes dilate and could almost hear her heartbeat quicken. He could see his reflection in her eyes, and could feel the knot of need which he never knew had existed even now in his stomach. he pushes himself up balancing himself on both of his arms but made no move to remove himself from that position. Instead riya starts feeling the lust of both heat up the air around them. Before her mind could register what is happening, riya's arms went around arjun's neck and pulling him towards her, her lips meet his with shyness. After a second of not getting any response from him, she pulls back to look into his eyes but the next second, arjun changes their position pulling riya on top of him and kisses her fiercely. She gasps and arjun takes the chance of opening her mouth and darting his tongue inside. Riya and Arjun groan tasting each other's nectar their lips trying to find fulfillment. Their breaths turn into gasps, as arjun fists his hand on riya's hair and wrenches his lips from hers only to start to nibble on her neck. Riya groans. And then both of them froze hearing the knock on the door.

Karan feels like gauging on his fingers. He think "don't know how those two will be? Did they resolve their fight or not? Nice idea karan. Keeping them in the same room. stupid stupid plan. Could'nt even think about anything else. Hopefully the room survived the destruction." The door opens revealing arjun wearing his shirt and jacket. Karan peers around and asks "where is riya?"

Arj: she is in the bathroom.

Kar: what? In the bathroom? So you both resolved your fight?

Arj: what, so you sent her purposefully here because you thought this would resolve our fight?

Kar: arre, arre shera, why do you think like that? am I mad to put sher and sherni in a room. I just asked because it seems the room has survived and it seems pristine, so just a thought came whether you both resolved our fight.

Arj: our fight karan is our fight. it will be better if you don't interfere. Now you stay here, I am going down to have chai then we will leave.

Kar: we can't leave shera. The roads are blocked due to the landslide caused by the rains. And according to the receptionist, the roads will be cleared only by late afternoon tomorrow. So we will have to spend the night here.

Arj: fine, I am waiting down. You wait here.

Kar: okay.

Arjun walked down the corridor. Karan sees him go and thinks "why does his hair looks like someone has tried to pull it out of its scalp?". Turning around he enters the room and sits. After a few minutes riya comes out of the bedroom. Seeing karan, she storms upto him but before she could say anything, karan goes on his knees, catches her legs saying "sorry sherni ma. I made a mistake."

Ri: karan, what are you doing. Leave my leg?

Kar: no, no I won't leave your leg until you forgive me.

Ri: okay, okay I forgive you.

Karan gets up and makes a pouting face seeing which riya smiles.

Kar: sorry riya, by mistakenly I gave you our room's key.

Ri: its okay karan. Anyone can make that mistake.

Kar: I hope shera did'nt give you much trouble.

Ri: no he did'nt.

Kar: fine take your things and lets shift them to your room. otherwise wait here, I will take the luggage and keep it in your room. your leg must throbbing with all the weight you must have put on it.

Ri( in a small voice): that's not the only thing that is throbbing.

Kar: you said something.

Ri: nothing.

Karan takes the luggage and goes to put it in the room. riya sits on the sofa and puts her head in her hand. she thinks "what did we just do? It should'nt have happened. But I am glad it did. It will give me memory of you arjun sir. I don't know what I feel for you arjun sir. but my choice is already made."

Arjun touches his lips and thought "I don't know what I feel for you riya. But my choice is already made."

Chapter 22

A fair woman is standing in front of him having a smile on her face with hidden secrets in her eyes while a dusky woman is standing right behind her an annoyance with a hint of curiosity in her eyes. from some distance he could see two men with a small girl clutching one of that persons hands having a protective stance towards the women. He smiles at the fair woman and said "yes daughter?"

Sim: baba, are you a fortune teller?

Baba smiles as the mistake regarding his getup is again made. he said "people think so. Me, I am a wanderer spreading the meaning of life and being at the service of people." from the corner of his eyes he saw the dusky woman favoring her right leg to stand. Smiling at the obvious stubbornness of hers to stand he said "why don't you two sit you bitiya. I am an old man and it is difficult for me to get up again. Please humour me." riya and simran sat down and he heard a sign of relief by the dusky girl as she stretches her legs. He then said "what do you need bitiya?"

Sim: to have our fortunes read.

He silently held out his hand indicating her palm. Simran places her palm on his and he looks at it. he said " it is strange how a choice can change your destiny. You have made a choice of choosing acting instead of getting married to your fiancee. You have fought against everyone you love and have reached till here. you will face a choice of having success in your life but it will come at a price. The time will come when you have to again choose a path and walk on it. let god give you that strength to make that choice."

Simran removes her palm stunned. She never told anyone not even karan about her fiance. Whatever the baba said in one way had been a deepest darkest secret. And now baba could see the wondering on her face of what price she has to pay for her choice. He then indicates riya to show her palm. As soon as riya hesitantly puts her palm on his hand he inhales a sharp breath. He said "you have always difficulties in your life and made a choice to overcome them. but the biggest difficulty has'nt yet arrived. You will again have to make a choice of what you are going to do. Beware of what you believe as you are unaware of the circumstances. Death was commited by your hands once and it will be commited again. Your choice will not only affect you but will affect the one you desire."

He felt a lose on his hand as riya snatches her hand back. He sees her eyes dilate with fear not at the prospect of making a choice but at the prospect of making death again. Weariness overcomes him as he raises his hand in blessing and said "bless you both my daughters. I hope that you find the strength to make your destiny again."

And he gets up and walks away while karan, arjun and anjali advance towards them. he feels the glare of the all 3 of them and he looks and smiles at them.

Baba: you are more entwined than you believe to be. With time there will be more challenges as each of you will make a life altering choice. Choose well and wisely. Let go of the past and concentrate on the present because the present is a fruit of the past but not the past. You will find your answers not by going back but by living in the now. Your life can change in a moment but that moment is the present so live in the now. You cannot always protect whats yours but you can ensure the protection of theirs is there. Not all is what it seems and not every hurt is ever healed. Heal yourself and you will heal those around you. never let go and you will never find the results you want.

He left as riya and simran got up. Arjun angrily said to simran "seriously simran why do you care what your fortune says?" before simran could say anything riya said "can we please go back. Its getting late and dark and we don't even know the area." Arjun looks at riya's downcast eyes and knows she is upset what the baba says. He nods his head and everyone leaves. Baba looks at the group as they reach the stairs and the man carries the woman without a protest from her. he looks up at the sky and said "give them the strength for they don't know what they are facing. Give them the strength to make a choice to change their destiny." And he walks to the dargah murmuring his lord's name.

Everyone is quite on the way back to the hotel. Not one pinch of sound is heard from them as they enter the hotel, have dinner and go to their rooms. Anjali is staying with riya and simran . all of them get quietly dressed and go to bed to sleep. While anjali falls asleep within seconds, riya and simran are unable to fall asleep. After tossing and turning for a few times, simran asks "riya."

Ri: hmmm.

Sim: are you feeling sleepy?

Ri: no. you?

Sim: no. that baba's words keeps coming into my head.

Ri: mine too.

Sim: riya, do you think that I should have stayed back and married my fiance.

Ri: are you happy where you are right now?

Sim: yeah, I am

Ri: then don't regret that choice. It was already made and there is no point in pondering over it. besides I am glad that you made that choice. If you had'nt made it then I would'nt have met you.

Sim: yeah, I know. my mom used to always say to me that my destiny is fixed and it is to be a housewife. I used to always wonder that why she used to say like that. when a boy has the choice of choosing any profession he likes then why can't a girl do the same. And when it came the time for my marriage, I ran away.

Ri: I am curious. When did you run away.

Simran smiled a devilish smile and said "the wedding day itself. Everyone was just downstairs and I ran away from the back stairs. And you know like in jab we met, shahid and kareena waited for the rest of the family to go and then left, similarly I did it. and no one till now from my family has caught me."

Ri: and if you were caught?

Sim: I would have been beheaded or hanged from the town square.

Ri: simran.

Sim: what? it is the truth.

Simran looks down at anjali's peaceful face and asks "do you think riya that what nupur said in the letter can be true. You know your brother..."

Ri: if it was anyone else, then I might consider it. but this is my brother we are talking about. He is the one who raised me after my parent's death, been my strength and inspiration in the toughest of times. Would you have believed it instantly if you were in my place simran?

Sim: I am not you riya. But somewhere I might consider. No offence.

Ri: none taken. I am not feeling sleepy. You go to sleep. I will just take a walk and come.

Sim: its midnight riya.

Ri: I won't take long. You sleep. I will take the key.

Before simran could say anything more, riya puts on her shawl, takes the key and goes from the room.

Chapter 16

Riya walks down slowly down the steps holding on to the railing for support with one hand while clutching her shawl tightly around her body with the other. It's a cold night with the coldness seeping into her bones even when she is wearing a shawl. She reaches at the side of the pool and walks to sit on one of the chairs. Leaning her head against the head rest of the chair she stretches her legs out. Taking the phone from the pocket she scrolls down the contacts and reaches mrityunjay's number. Dialing it she listens as the operator says that the number is unavailable. She heaves a frustrated sign and cuts the phone and dials tara's number and gets the same message. She does'nt know why but she feels a sense of dread overcome her whenever she thought about those two people who helped her through the toughest phase of her life. She closes her eyes thinking of just resting for some time and within 5 minutes falls asleep. Her sleep is undisturbed as arjun picks her up in her arms and carries her upto her room and places her on the bed.

Next morning,

Simran nudges karan with her foot and karan ignores her. simran nudges him again and becoming annoyed, karan looks at her and with his eyes asks what happened. Simran looks points towards riya and arjun with her eyes and shows how both of them are studiously avoiding each other gaze. Karan reassures that he will do something but before he could say anything arjun said "karan, have you and simran become aliens that you two are communicating each other through sign language?". riya looks up from the newspaper and smiles seeing karan and simran blush at being caught.

Kar: nothing like that shera.

Arj (without looking up from his newspaper): then why are you communicating each other with sign language. Kindly explain.

Riya disguises her giggles with a cough seeing karan coming up with an explanation. As she waits for what explanation karan is going to give, she stiffens hearing the voice of the newscaster. Arjun's attention shifts from karan to riya as he sees riya turn and walk to the television in the restaurant. He hears the words mrityunjay and tara shekhawat and death and immediately connects the words. He sees riya staring at the tv listening as the newscaster explains how kalavati killed the entire shekhawat family and while chasing kalavati mrityunjay and tara fell down the ravine and died as their car burst into flames. The reporter reported that this incident took place yesterday afternoon. Riya feels a numbness enter her body as she sees her friends images on the tv and hears about how they died. Her legs suddenly have no feeling and she is going to hit the floor when she feels a pair of arms surrounding her holding and securing her and making her feel safe. Arjun feels a trickle of fear enter as he sees riya's face having no expression at all. She stares at him as if he is'nt there at all. Her eyes slowly closes and arjun feels a sense of panic overwhelm him. riya begins to whisper something and arjun leans towards her to hear her say "no one is safe around me. no one." And darkness overpowers riya as she fades into nothing.

Dr kapoor sighs as he sees riya staring listlessly at the picture yet he knows that she is seeing nothing. Although she is conscious now but she is still in a dark place and yet this dark place is protecting her from her trauma. He pats riya's hand unsure whether she felt it and head out of the room to see arjun and karan pacing the room while anjali and simran are holding hands tightly. He knows that the words he is going to say now is going to change all of their lives forever.

Kar: how is riya now dr kapoor? Will she be okay?

Dr: riya is in shock karan. And I don't know whether she is going to come out of it.
