Hello Charu!@Bolds: Yes he was in love with Sharmistha yet it seems that he was under so much family pressure,(especially his own mother) and due to this, he got married to Janaki. Somehow Shekhar did not speak up but stood mute and looks like Sharmistha did the same too, for family they sacrificed their "Love" and let things go by it seems. (But dono hein apne shadi mein khush nahin the, ek ki toot gayi and one suffered a tragic end)In terms of Shekhar's behaviour, it seems like even he has been "brain-washed" by his mother, whom made him believe that it was due to her(Sharmistha) that Jaanki incident happened (I could be wrong), which lead to Shekhar and Sharmistha's big breakup and feud building up.As of the misunderstanding, you're right, it will continue to build up, and dhamaka will continhue!
