Part-7:

You hurt me more than what I deserve because I loved you more than what you deserve.

Moral:-

Not just drink and drive is injurious, sometimes drink and walk too.

Before he could say anything she whispered without any preamble.

"Someone is annoying me here," and was stunned to hear the voice from the other end.

'God, I have called him, after all!'

"Where are you now?"

"He is drunk and-"

"Where are you?"

She made her mind that she still could claim that it was the first name stored in her mobile.

"In a telephone booth,"

"You've to say here where this booth is situated!"

He said once got the pain in her voice.

"It's near the 2nd cross road and it is-"

She said once got the mock in his voice.

"Right, I'll be there in five minutes!"

"I don't think we-I have that much time,"

She peered through the glass and got that the fellow was still waddling but coming toward the booth.

"Then in three minutes!"

In three minutes!

Then he should be riding in hell speed.

'Oh, God!'

Who would care?

'I won't!'

God, there may not be anything to come in his way.

./

./

The man came toward the coin booth and tried in vain to open it.

He circled the booth once and then she heard nothing.

'God, has he gone?'

She looked through all the three glasses, but there was no trace of him at any direction.

'Thank God!' she sighed in relief. She did not have to get help from the one she detested the most or owe him anything too.

She slowly opened the door and came out cautiously.

When she crossed a tree a figure suddenly came out from the dark and it was him again.

"Out," he declared, "Now, I'll hide and you find me," he said and instead of her, he started to count numbers with a hand on his eyes.

She thought to use the situation to escape.

She started moving away from there.

He was counting, "...11, 10, 11- then what?"

He removed his hand and asked her.

Once saw that she was moving away as turning to see him every other second he got confused.

"Hey, wait. I'm coming. Don't leave me here alone. Can't you see it's dark?"

#

He stopped the car near the booth and got that the nearby shops were closed.

He went to the booth and opened it.

He would have expected her to be there sitting and crying if she was the old Sakshi.

But-she-was-not-anymore!

He heard her voice then, somewhere in the dark.

#

She was talking to that fellow to her surprise.

"See, I'll call the police, don't you get it? Go away!"

Then suddenly he appeared in front of her-between her and him.

"Where are you? I'll find you anyway... you can't-"he tried to circle Arjun and reach her as though the looming figure standing before him was a tree.

Sakshi clutched his shirt tightly and hid behind him in reflex.

"Hey, come on, you can't leav-"

That was it.

He had heard enough, Arjun decided.

With that one swat, the wag was gone; the man stood still.

He could never have imagined that a tree would have an angry hand like that.

Even Sakshi took a step back from him in terror.

There was no trace of the drug in his system anymore.

He said, "You've called the police after all," as he clutched his cheek, helplessly.

When Arjun said that single word, there was dead calmness in his voice, "Go."

The man obeyed without a word as though he had got then the way to the house suddenly.

Arjun turned to her and gave an appealing smile that hit her hard. If she was not mistaken she had seen this same beguiling smile in the restaurant 'that' night when they argued about the ice cream.

#

They moved toward the car.

"Why didn't you use a taxi?"

He said.

"I didn't know everybody would be like you-"His eyes sharpened, "I mean all were alike," she said it differently.

And it hit home hard.

"You called me after all, not any other gentleman now."

He returned.

"Yes, I did," She admitted at once.

If she had said something harshly, it would have been better, he thought, for he could see the pain in her voice.

"Come on, let's go away from here, before he comes back with men."

She could not believe him saying it.

She looked at his face and found he was smiling.

'Everything seems playful to him, lately.'

Part-8:

The easiest kind of relationship for me is with ten thousand people. The hardest is with one.

They got in the car. She thought to protest, but was not ready for an argument then.

She sat beside him and thought, the journey started just like this 'that day' too.

He said, "I want to talk to you."

'God!'

She held her breath.

'This feeling of wresting the heart is never going to go away in ages,' she thought.

Then she got what was going on. She sighed and said, "I've already told you-"

"Ive too told you, I could see to the matter myself. This is not about the article."

"Then?"

Her voice became airy suddenly.

Why should this thing, fate plays with her every time with its own rules and a mystery to her always?'

"Not here- I mean not in the road. Your place?" he suggested.

Before she could say a word he added quietly, "I think you don't want to go over to my place, right?"

"No!" she almost screamed out.

"Thanks!" he said quietly.

"What?"

"For accepting to talk to me!"

"I-"

"If you say you won't meet me in one place then obviously it means you are ready to meet me at some other, right?"

She was confused, but to her surprise she was nodding her acceptance.

'Good!'

'What, did she hear him say, 'Good'?' she could not be sure.

#

The car stopped. She got out and was standing there almost at the same place as once before, but from a taxi then, she remembered.

He cleared his throat to get her attention.

"Mm," she looked up at him.

"The keys."

"Oh, I have them!"

She went to the door and opened.

She was holding a hand bag that day too, she winced.

He sat on the sofa as she sighed and went toward the kitchen.

She came back after she pulled herself together, enough to face him again with a glass. She was holding it in both hands as though she did not trust herself.

"Oh, I'm sorry, unnecessary disturbance for you. You could-" he said formally.

"Water!"

She put the glass before him. She could see that his nose got broken down and thought he needed one sometimes. But he said, "I expected after the effort I took for you tonight, I deserved at least half a glass of tea."

He said unperturbedly.

If he had expected her to move once again toward the kitchen he was wrong.

She did not even move a muscle, all right, except some to say, "I don't have milk at this hour of the night," she said as an explanation.

"Oh, it's all right. Don't worry," he consoled her, "I too don't want anything now except-" he took the glass and raised it as if to say, 'Cheers!'

She waited till he put the glass down and asked in a numb voice.

"Tell me!"

"Thanks for the water," he started, "Well, what do you think about Shree?"

"About what?" he had gotten her off-guard then.

She could not even believe that he had come to her house after a long day in the school, just to ask her what she thought about Shree.

Two hours back:

A man rushed to the office and met the boss.

"Sir,"

"What, a scoop?" the old man asked.

"More than that!"

He showed him what he got that evening.

The old man fell into silence.
