They picked most culturally significant characters of each.

These characters also align with the nature of their appeal, public image and fandom.

Raj and Bhuvan were so ...
cant believe SRK is the same guy who was Raj, but Aamir and Salman are proving to be true to their fans ..

Either Salman or SRK.

Aamir finally accepting age and playing dad in Dangal.

True. But if you look at it Aamir has been doing this for quite a while now.
TZP, Dhobi Ghat, Talaash, PK and now Dangal. The only exceptions have been 3I(a different context/story here but nonetheless) and that crap called D3(still cant figure out why he did that).

Its high time Salman and Shahrukh follow suit.

Aamir did slowly shift to mature aged roles especially with DG and Talaash.

SRK also played dad in MNIK, older role in RNBDJ and CDI.

Salman is the only one who still plays conventional hero. Maybe PRDP could present a different side?

If they do age appropriate roles in good content oriented films they can last longer as they will be readily accepted.

The main reason why actors lose top position with age is that they still try to pull off roles which they did in their prime. If they reinvent then they minimise risk of outright rejection and audience fatigue.

Yes, so can we please stop pairing them up with Katrina/Deepika/Jacqueline...any other females half their age...?!

And if BW insists on pairing these guys with 20 something females, then I want to see Preity Zinta next to Shahid, Rani opposite Varun, and Madhuri next to Hrithik! It's only fair that female actors in their 40s get the same treatment!
