Brilliant.
It's true that at time like this when people are dying and fighting for survival, things like religion, faith, cast, differences doesn't count, lost meaning.

Of course if we talk about lost civilizations we think if we could get some information about them through their books or things used by them. To know about them. But how can anyone think straight in time like this.

They are fighting to live and don't want to think that they should preserve something for future to know about them.

Many big museums in fact have a sort of protocol set up in lieu of a natural / nuclear disaster. Art transcend time and culture to tell a tale of a bygone era. It becomes next to impossible to think about these things in situations such as these as their immediate thought is about their next meal, being safe and be protected.

Funny you are musing about the lost arts and civilization as I just got home from my 8 year old's exhibit (well it was her work and her classroom's work) at the textile museum. I have high regards for museums and national archives because their values cannot be measured in my opinion. I think it will be awesome for mankind or any other living organism to learn about a civilization's history from the archived information in the future in case of any catastrophic event where the civilization gets wiped out. In some ways, I feel past civilizations have left many clues for us, look how much we have learned about Egyptians, incas, Aztecs, etc . . .because of what we have been able to dig up. For me to have my kid Google the story of the Taj Mahal at 8, even though we live continents away is awesome. How long ago was Shah Jahan? The fact that their story and the culture at that time is still interesting to kids of such young age is pretty awesome. Google may not be the best thing to use but we can still get some info about that time. Anyway, I hope that some remnants of their civilization and culture will be preserved in some way. Who knows maybe future generations will learn from the mistake of the older one!
The point about religion is something completely different. I love that you mention younger generation being able to adapt it to their time, especially at a time where f**ked up minds think nothing about high jacking their religion and bringing it back to the stone ages. i believe that the only religion these survivors will be adhering to is the survival mode. Of course some crazy mind will take advantage of this panic mode and try to filter down their crazy notion of religion and how it will save the world. The stronger mind will know that they will need to rely on their mental acumen to survive and not to be preached at. Normal boundaries are long gone and there will be no normalcy until the disease and panic is under control. Control another one of those words that I can go on about. But I think I have long passed your quota of 100 words, so I will ramble in another feedback.

What will the remaining holy men do? What will politicians do? A warlord eventually rises to control resources and make a profit.

Greed is inevitable. Preachers always exist as does their followers. Its a nice escape from reality to believe in something higher. If they get told "you are alive unlike millions of others because God has a greater plan", it becomes a driving force in their life to survive.

I will be exploring god-people, warlords, society building etc.

How are they. able to think straight when their survival itself is a big issue...
But I feel if we can have a record of how the people faced such apocalyptic situations and what measures they have taken to keep the race alive then it would be a great help for future generations if and when such a thing surfaces again..

If such a record exists and it isn't common knowledge - then what? It all comes down to probability of such an apocalypse happening. But then again, we are just one small step away from making a horrible mistake.

16. Sound of silence

"The silence is now eerily freaky," Akash notes, watching fire cackle. "I didn't expect I would miss the sound of ding' of elevator, vibrating sound of cellphone and all the noises that make up...life."

"So sound of chirping birds, rickety insects and random animals don't count?" There was an edge in Khushi's voice.

"Noises of people." Akash amends easily. "I miss it." Khushi doesn't respond.

"We can check out the military base tomorrow." Arnav says. Khushi cleans the wound on his forehead and reapplies sandalwood and turmeric paste. Healing is slow.

They were on the road for fifteen days now.

You don't realize what you have till it's gone. Totally human for Akash to speculate on the things that used to be part of his daily life. In some way, it may bring some sanity where none exists. However Kushi brings him to reality very quickly reminding him to be more aware of what is around him now. We do need nature in order to survive and we do take it for granted and abuse it. So this could be a unique situation to reconnect and appreciate nature in all it's glory instead of taking all the time. I think Akash though just misses human interaction having been on the road with 3 others only. Natural medicine that Kushi is applying is another sign of going back to basic. I always think that catastrophe is mother nature's way of fixing all the abuses we throw at her, it is like she wants us to get back to our grassroots, to the time when cavemen existed, survival instinct, making use of what is in abundance and not be greedy. Of course she cannot fix human characters and traits of always wanting more, of depleting what we have in our need to consume more.
It will be interesting to see their interaction once they reach the military base.

Now they use sandalwood and turmeric paste. No detol or anything synthetic.
Nature's magic and victory.
