Its the way Rudra's character has been portrayed in the past...this angry and vengeful man.
Gautum now has to make a switch from that to a "softer" man, which is in stark contrast to before.
I barely watch the show these days. I am not a fan of Gautum in this show and I will not, like others, solely blame it on "direction"(though I understand it is still to blame somewhat). At the end of the day an actor can make the role his own, and Gautum in my eyes has never looked the part of a rough and tough hero. He suits more comedic roles or where he is the son to some rich family..preppy boy.
A rustic, rough guy. Nope. Ashish Sharma would have suited this role to a T.
With all that being said, I will give Gautum credit for trying a new role. Maybe as he moves on, he will find his "niche"
Gautam is one of my favorite TV actors and hence I might sound a little biased when it comes to his acting. I am sure that's the case with the rest who blame the OTT anger and fake looking lamenting-over-lost-love scenes on the director. The director and he are such great friends and I am sure they discuss and analyze the scenes before the final execution. My grouse with Gautam's Rudra (the uncontrollable, boisterous anger) in the initial episodes is that the characterization was so discordant with how Siddharth's Rudra was conceptualized. Now IF Sid's Rudra also had the trait of a child having temper problems and that needed to be translated into the adult Rudra, that is, if the anger had been well backed up by the script, would we have any problems with connecting to Gautam's Rudra? I think no. IMHO, there are so many actors who would do the uncontrolled fury look convincing and not OTT and cringe worthy, like Ashish Sharma (as you've mentioned😊)or Mohit Raina (my top favorite Indian TV actor). But thankfully, that phase is over. I applaud Gautam for having taken up this show as the hallmarks of great actors is to not confine oneself into "niche" roles but to explore wider avenues. He's been able to convince me as the rough and rustic Rudra otherwise.
The girl that plays Maya is pretty but I find the passion behind the character missing. Here I partially blame the screenplay/script because Maya, till now, has been portrayed as unessential part of this show. She is not one of the 'lucky 7' and was a mere pawn used by her relatives. Aside from playing a weak girl who gets kidnapped and cries for help...she has been useless. She had more 'spunk' when she first debuted in the show, and over time, her character has not been given the development it needs.I like PR TBH. I think she has the potential in her to match up to her co-actors. She needs to work on her voice modulation, and most importantly, use her eyes to express emotions. IMO, if an actor has the ability to use his/her eyes to convey any emotion, it's a winner right there. I have no problems with Maya as a character though. The good thing about the show is that it's story-centered and not actor centered; every character paves way for the story to move forward, and that's a rarity on Indian TV. Right now, Maya has been a Red-herring of sorts, and if my predictions turn out to be true, she does have an important role to play in the story, moving forward.
I think with having so characters in the show, there will be a few that fall thru the cracks.
