B-Towners tell us about who they'd want to play on screen and why

From Paan Singh Tomar to Bhag Milkha Bhag, Mary Kom and others, biopics have done quite well, enough, in fact for some of the stars to consider doing them. They tell us who they'd pick to play on screen and why...

Shah Rukh Khan

Rumoured to be approached for a biopic on hockey legend Dhyan Chand

His Take: No, I am not doing that film as of now. People have been asking me about this for years. No one has offered it to me yet. When I was growing up, my father used to tell me about three people who I have always respected a lot- Milkha Singh ji, Dhyan Chand ji and Mohammad Ali - the boxer. I have heard a lot of stories about these people and their stories have inspired me a lot in life. Any film based on people's lives intrigue me the most. I don't know if I will be able to play hockey like Dhyan Chand because no one in the world can play hockey like him. So maybe, if I ever do the film, we have to use a lot of special effects.

Aamir Khan

Currently shooting for 'Dangal'- a biopic on the life of Pahelwan Mahavir Phogat

His Take: I would love to do biopics. I find them very interesting, but me doing a biopic depends on what is offered to me. I don't think there's anyone in particular who I can name. I don't like to think of films that I want to do. For a film, everything should fall in place organically and the organic way to start a film is a writer coming up with an idea and writing it out. I will come in only after the script is ready and the casting is done. I haven't even seen any of the biopics made in Bollywood yet. But still if you ask me, I would say that there are a lot of fans who've been telling me to do a film on Narendra Modi!

Akshay Kumar

Reportedly signed Soumik Sen's next - a biopic on magician PC Sorcar

His take: I have never thought of it but if I am offered a good film and it happens to be a biopic, then why not? I love trying out different genres. But it's really difficult to pick someone I'd like to play on screen

Ranbir Kapoor

On board two biopics already - of Kishore Kumar by Anurag Basu and of Sanjay Dutt by Rajkumar Hirani

His take: Biopics are possibly the trickiest genres of film-making. You need to scrutinise and analyse before going on floors. But yes, I have always loved working with Anurag Basu, so the film on Kishore Kumar will definitely happen. As of now, I don't know when but I am excited to play the part. Similarly, Raju sir and I had a talk about Sanjay Dutt's biopic and I am prepping for the film.

Sonam Kapoor

Signed Ram Madhwani's untitled biopic on the brave flight attendant Neerja Bhanot and played Milkha's love interest Biro in Bhag Milkha Bhag

Her take: I have always had the wish and desire to play someone in a film. I cannot tell you anything about the Neerja Bhanot film until it's official. But in general, I love biopics. I already played a small part in BMB, but if I had to play a full fledged role, I think I should play P T Usha. She's very athletic and I probably would be able to carry it off well.

Deepika Padukone

Ace tennis player Sania Mirza and badminton champion Saina Nehwal both want Deepika to act in their biopic.

Her take: It's very flattering of Sania to have said that. If I ever do a biopic, it would possibly be on a sportswoman because that runs in my blood. So probably, a Sania Mirza or a Saina Nehwal! I am a good badminton player myself, thanks to my genes and I guess these biopics would be perfect for me.

Vidya Balan

Played a role based on Silk Smitha's life in The Dirty Picture and was in the running for the Benazir Bhutto biopic. Was also offered a biopic on Carnatic singer M S Subbulakshmi.

Her take: I would love to play Charlie Chaplin on screen someday. Biopics have not just become the flavour of the season but ever since The Dirty Picture, everyone's talking about it. I myself got five-six biopics offered to me in the last one year. It's quite crazy but at the moment, I am not considering any biopic.

Abhishek Bachchan

Reportedly plans to produce and act in Yuvraj Singh's biopic.

His take: Personally, I would love to do a biopic on Yuvraj Singh's life. The way that man has battled against all odds, played for the team knowing he has cancer and brought us the World Cup is truly inspiring. He has gone through lots of ups and downs in his career and been through a lot of pain. His life in total is fantastic and I have learnt a lot from him.

Bipasha Basu:

Reportedly in the running for Kapil Sharma's biopic on Rekha.

Her take: I would love to do something - maybe the life of some athlete. I am a fitness freak, so I would love to play someone's role who's very athletic, someone like a P T Usha.

Sidharth Malhotra

No biopics offered yet.

His take: There are so many interesting personalities whose stories are untold. Personally, I would love to be part of a biopic of a sportsperson. I have always been a sporty guy, been actively involved into basketball and rugby during my college days. I love football and it's one way how I stay fit- by playing a lot of football. So if I have to choose someone to play on screen, I would do better justice to a sportsman.

Jacqueline Fernandez

Has been approached to play Sangeeta Bijlani in Mohammad Azharuddin biopic.

Her take: I would love to do a biopic on Mother Teresa. She has been an inspiration to me since childhood. When I get to play her on screen, I will also get to learn a lot more about her.

Kangana Ranaut

Playing the role of a famous mountaineer (name yet to be disclosed) in Hansal Mehta's next.

Celeb-speak: I have always loved challenging roles which give me a lot more scope to act. I love adventure and whenever I get time, I try out different adventure sports. I am open to biopics if the script is well written and the role excites me.

Varun Dhawan

No biopics offered till now.

His take: I am definitely game for biopics and I totally love the concept. I don't think I can name one person who I would be fit to play on screen, but if the role is interesting, I'll take it up.

Ayushmann Khurrana

Starred in the recently released Hawaizaade based on Shivkar Talpade's life.

His take: Of course I would love to do a biopic and it would be great if I am offered to do Sachin Tendulkar's biopic. I am a huge SRT fan and I don't understand people who are not his fans. (Laughs) I never understand his critics. He is a legend.

Tiger Shroff

Too new for a biopic, he feels.

His take: Personally, I feel I would not be able to pull off any biopic nicely because it's difficult to match upto legendary figures on screen. It is very challenging to portray the lives of people who I would want to someday do a biopic on. Given a choice, I would love to do a biopic on either Michael Jackson, Bruce Lee or Hrithik Roshan.
