Lets assume

Nz plays with ireland/zim/pak

Aus plays with WI

India plays with england

SA play with Srilanka

This brings India vs Aus and NZ vs SA in semi

Especially in the lower spectrum rankings don't matter much because the teams are almost equally bad. West Indies, Pakistan, Sri lanka, England, Ireland and Zimbabwe can beat each other if they have a good day.

One problem w/ the rankings is that inactive teams end up at the bottom, while the ones that are most prolific in playing, not necessarily performing, are the ones that rise to the top.

New Zealand is doing well on their own turf, but it would be interesting to see if they are world beaters elsewhere - like in South Africa, England, India or even Australia! Sri Lanka is way worse than the top 4 teams - South Africa, India, Australia and England, but at par w/ NZ and way above the rest - Windies, Pak, BD, et al.

But I do think that OP had a good point about comparing the rankings w/ the expectations one has of the team. This ain't 1992 Pakistan which can pull off a coup like they did then!

What amazes me that Aus summer for India was disatrous.. and then first 2 matches in WC... its like they were doing net practice for this WC all that time.. 😆

NZ has reached semis but never the final. If it's not India then my prayers r with NZ. 😊

1992 Pak team had a gr8 captain in Imran who batted so well in final to get Pak 250 from 50/3 (If i Rem correctly) and surprize package Inzamam and then the gr8 Akram.

This pak team is divided into 11 teams it seems.
