Why industry women stay silent on abuse?

Just read detailed story of Zeenat Aman being beaten up mercilessly openly in hotel by Sanjay Khan and how her eye was permanently deformed due to this violence.

If it's in every magazine and even eye witnesses were there then why did she remain silent?

Why no one came forward to support her?

When that casting couch scandal had come to fore, many actresses from films, TV and theatre had admitted it existed and shared their stories.

Why no one filed a complaint?

And if many suffer one way or the other then why not unite and fight for justice?

What stops them?

How are abusers roaming free? That veteran blockbuster filmmaker Manmohan Desai openly bragged about his affairs and equated himself to Lord Krishna in his interviews. Pran, even when he was ageing in 1980s bragged about his fetish for teenaged girls openly in an interview. This stuff is even available online.

If people were bragging it means they knew there would be no action against them. How come they are this unafraid and unconcerned?

Laws are there no? Why women don't use them? Why they don't speak up openly even after years, and after leaving the industry?

Is it not possible for Indian actresses, filmmakers and female employees in the industry to form an organisation that looks after rights of female working in the industry?

All issues be it casting couch or abuse or money matters, matters relating to media etc can be taken up by such a body.

What stops the formation of such a formal body?

Fear, Lack of industry support, humiliation, underworld threat, money power, no/less financial support and perks (for star wives).

Most industry men who cheat and abuse have strong connections within the industry and money power. When Pooja Bhatt was abused by then boyfriend Ranvir Shorey, her brother beat him up and they lodged complaint. Here the girl was more powerful.

Forget male/female do Bollywood actors even have their own union ??? Like the Screen Actors Guild ??

Also unless they have 100 % proof and orate themselves perfectly they will end up sounding like Vivek Oberoi 😆

I understand.

But I also asked why no action is taken even if it happens in open?

If an educated, well established, famous and well earning woman like Zeenat is silent despite having even eye witnesses around, then it definitely calls for debate. Zeenat was from an influential family, her father had written dialogues for films like Pakeezah...even such people had to be silent?

I also wonder why and how were industry men so sure that there would be no action and it won't even harm their reputation that they were bragging about their sexual exploits so openly? Even their families would tolerate this?

Oh yes Bollywood is totally disorganised! No actors' guild or writers' guild. No organisation for musicians either. Sonu Nigam is the lone voice speaking on rights of singers and he too is ignored or painted as a prick.

CINTAA exists but I wonder what actual work it has done to support artistes from the industry. Most veterans are dying in penury.

Vivek Oberoi is a joke now. Career destroyed. 😆

I think back then women were raised to be "someone's wife". Even in movies the "good lady" was the nurturing, sacrificing and loving one.

For someone brought up in that environment I think it would be difficult to speak up on abuse or leave an abusive relationship. It would be like thinking out of the box.

Besides that there is the common misconception that one cannot possibly live without someone and all sorts of cheesy movie lines on that. I think when you genuinely believe that you can create all sorts of trouble for yourself.
