Farman of Mariam-Uz-Zamani Begum

This post is about an edict(Imperial Order/Farman) issued by Mariam-Uz-Zamani(MUZ) Begum. It happens to be one of the most awaited posts, for which many of you have sent enough messages.. Sorry for the delay, but this post is worth it's wait.

Sharing the details of a hukm or edict issued by this remarkable lady with you. It was fascinating to see how involved she was in such a routine court matter as the embezzlement of the assets of a court employee by a Zamindar. This is an example of how she was involved in resolving the civil disputes among the masses through her edicts.

Before we start, let me tell the brief contents of this post. The Imperial Order/Farman of MUZ is discussed at the end of the post, and before that, various terminologies related to Imperial Mughal Farmans have been discussed. This post contains the Original Persian Scan of that Farman, along with some scans from the Indian Historical Records Commission Meeting, 1925 at Lahore ; which describes the title of "Wali Nimat" conferred on Mariam-Uz-Zamani Begum.

Wali Nimat means "Gift of God/Blessing of Saint".

Was discussing this incident on the forum, few days back.
Thought of writing about that event also.

Regarding the same incident , made a post. Have given the details of this lady also, whom Akbar saved and gave a new lease of life.

For Ashoka...

I know many of you are watching it.
I also started to watch but stopped later. Though, i try to catch up when ever possible.

Historicals these days, seem to apply a lot of dramatization. Ashoka is not far behind. While Bindusara knew about the identity of Ashoka since the birth as his son, the show is portraying the opposite. Dharma was made a Chief Queen before birth of Ashoka, but here Dharma is shown as an ill-treated woman.

Here is an interesting read about the HISTORY of REAL Ashoka , Dharma and Bindusara. It contains scans from the Sanskrit texts, and the probable translation.

Indeed, the tale was interesting. Ashoka was disliked by his father, it seems from the account, due to his "dark complexion". All these are Buddhist tales, and they need to be taken with a pinch of salt. It is the rock edicts of Ashoka which are completely certain in revealing his history. The Buddhist texts which were written till about 3rd century AD often vary in the details about Ashoka's life.

Made a post on 443rd Anniversary of Maharana Pratap's ascension to the throne of the kingdom of Mewar. He became the ruler of Mewar on 28th February 1572, after the demise of his father - Rana Udai Singh. To remember the day, i thought of making a post & describe that historic occasion.

I am listing the events which happened at a great pace on that day - 28th February 1572.

An stellar personality whose stature has been eclipsed under the giant names of Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb. This post also contains link of 2 other posts made on her. She played instrumental role in the life of these 2 people, mentioned above.

At the end of this post, a brief comparison has been given of the situations when the Mughal ladies issued such strict orders. I found it interesting.
